9th-11th century AD. A mixed group of bronze items comprising: a Roman piriform strap end fragment with standing figure modelled in low relief; a 9th century Anglo-Saxon dragon-head mount with lug to the reverse; a dress pin with collar and domed head; an 11th century Anglo-Scandinavian stirrup mount of Williams's Class A Type 7 with two piercings at the lower edge and ledge to the reverse. 24 grams total, 26-43mm (1 - 1 3/4"). *Egypt Campaign. Egypt 1882-89, no clasp, dated (Capt: J. Reeves. 2/D of C.L.I.), Khedives Star 1882, extremely fine, mounted for wearing, in a fine fitted leather case with dress miniature awards and miniature watercolour portrait of the recipient Captain John Reeves, born 1844, Ensign 1868, advanced Captain in the D.C.L.I. 1877, served during the Egypt Campaign, a newspaper article on 17 October 1882 reports a fight at Kassassin and the reconnaissance at Tel-el-Keber on the 20 August the enemy attacked the British position at Kassassin with great bravery. Towards nightfall a brilliant cavalry charge was made by the Life Guards and the 7th Dragoon Guards, led by Colonel Sir Baker Russell of the 13th Hussars. They sabred the Egyptian gunners and routed the enemy, who fled in wild confusion leaving their unsupported guns in British hands. No prisoners were taken, Arabi Pasha himself was present at the attack. Killed: Surgeon-Major Shaw and six marines and gunners, wounded: Major James Fitz Eustace Forster, Captain John Reeves and Lieutenant George Glencairn Cunningham of the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, in total 7 British killed and 61 wounded. Private Harris (who served with the Mounted Infantry) received a Victoria Cross for this action. (2)
*WWII Medals & Logbook. A collection of personal belongings to Flight Lieutenant W. Sparrow, Royal Air Force, Burma Star, Defence and War Medals, RAF Long Service & G.C., G.VI.R. (365391 F/Sgt. W, Sparrow. R.A.F.), extremely fine, mounted for wearing, with dress miniature awards, with an extensive archive relating to the recipient including original documents, b/w photographs including three group photographs of the Apprentices Wing Royal Air Force, Cranwell 1929, wedding day photograph, two fine images of the Salon de L'Aviation, Grand Palais, Paris 1938 showing the exhibitition stand of Hawker Siddeley, letters include one from the Air Ministry dated 1956, giving thanks from the Queen for leaving the Active List, educational certificates, a logbook kept by the recipient, first entry 21.9.1943 (Lancaster J.A. 904), last entry 16.2.1944, total flying time 129hrs45mins, a silver plated cigarette case (still containing cigarettes!), medal boxes, a large collection sporting medals won by the recipient (some silver) including a Royal Tournament medal won whilst stationed at RAF Scampton (home of 617 Squadron), badges, buttons, trophies, Officer's dress cap etc., a comprehensive list of contents can be provided Flight Lieutenant William Sparrow (1908-82), born in Brentwood, Essex, served with the Royal Air Force (Tech. Branch) from 1924-56, retired from service in 1956 after 17 years 263 days service, he served in Iraq from 1929-32 and India from 1932 - 1943. (a carton)

An Edward VII Deputy County Lieutenant's dress sword, the 80cm straight steel blade etched with military trophies and scrolls, gilt metal shell guard applied with white metal E.VII.R. cypher, straight crossguard, wirebound grip and knucklebow, crown pommel with sword knot, 94cm long overall, in its black leather scabbard with brass mounts and 'all-weather' bag (1)
