German Needlework with Applied Decoration of a Zeppelin. A painted plaster decoration is formed of a Zeppelin overlaid with an Imperial Eagle and a large oak wreath bearing the Arms of six German states within shields. The wreath is flanked by Iron Crosses on either side and has a moulded frame at its base containing a photograph of an Infantry Officer in Parade Dress. The whole picture bears the inscription in red needlework `Wir Deutsche Furchten Gott Sons Nichts Auf Der Welt Zur Erinnerung Am 1914 Die Grosse Zeit`. Contained in a glazed brown lacquered reeded frame 67cm x 55.5cm. GC, some wear to frame.
A rare dress jacket for a crewman of the German Naval Airship Division. In dark blue cloth adorned with two lines of decorative silvered buttons. Each sleeve has 6 similar buttons; the left sleeve bears the cloth badge of the Division and a large V. The buttons are of the Imperial German Navy. The interior of the jacket has a series of inspectors stamps, also stitched in is a label bearing the name `Bruggerman`. GC minor wear. illustrated on Plate 35.
A rare dress jacket for an Officer of the German Naval Airship Division. In dark blue cloth adorned with two lines of decorative buttons. Each sleeve has 6 similar buttons, the left sleeve bears the cloth badge of the Division. The gilt buttons are of the Imperial German Navy. VGC minor wear, illustrated on Plate 35.
An Imperial German Naval Officer`s Arch Topped Wooden Chest. Black canvas covered and leather-bound. 61.5cm x 30cm x 31.5cm high. With a fitted compartmentalised lift-out tray equipped with brass handles. The lid is inscribed on the lid in white paint `LzS Kruger`. The interior of the chest contains fitments in the lower section for a full dress cocked hat and full dress gold bullion thread fringed epaulettes, both of which are present. The tray contains in eight fitted compartments a series of uniform accoutrements amongst which are the following: (1). A 1901 pattern officer`s dirk bearing on one side of the forte of the blade, the knights helmet mark of the maker `Weyersberg Kirschabaum & Cie`and on the other side a mark of crossed swords over the initial B&R. The blade is of `Damascus` pattern, welded steel. (2). A full dress belt of woven silver bullion thread with red and grey bands. It has a heavy gilt brass buckle bearing the Crowned Imperial Cypher over an anchor. The whole contained within a laurel wreath. (3). A leather belt covered with black corded silk and lined with velvet. It has a gilt brass buckle of the same pattern as the full dress belt. It also has two gilt brass lion headed rings to accept the hangers for the dirk. (4). Two hangers for the dirk of velvet backed black corded silk to match the belt previously described. Both have gilt brass lions headed buckles and gilt brass hooks. (5). A leather belt covered in blue woven cotton. (6). A sword knot of silver bullion thread for the dirk. (7). A large sword knot of silver bullion thread for a naval sword. (8). A long two-part hanger of thin plaited leather with a series of four sprung clips of brass. This chest was owned by Leutnant Kurt Emil Kruger, who served in the German Naval Airship Division and served on the LZ-120, L-41 and L-70. He was the Executive Officer of the L-70 from July 8 1918. The L-70 was shot down in flames by British aircraft off the Norfolk coast on August 5 1918. On board at this time was Peter Strasser, Chief of the Naval Airship Service. All persons on board were killed. This chest and its contents are extremely rare in their own right, but to be directly connected to the Executive Officer of the Zeppelin, in which Peter Strasser was killed, makes the item of great significance. VGC for age. Some tarnishing to gold bullion thread swag on cocked hat. Dirk sword knot tarnished and cord frayed. Majority of gilding lost on dirk, illustrated on Plate 36. N.G.P.P
A good quality German Beer Stein. Ornate hinged pewter topped with an eagle to top and lion with shield to handle. White glazed with multi coloured printed picture design- soldiers in full period dress uniform scenes with an airship and a biplane in the background. ‘1 Bayerichiffer Bataillion Munchen 1910’. VGC light wear only, illustrated on Plate 3.
