Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting was originally published on the Fleetwood Collector's Plate created in 1994. Chris Calle, acclaimed the world over for his Western art, has done some of his best work for this premier plate. Portraying Native Americans in full tribal dress with the utmost accuracy, this limited-edition fine porcelain plate is lavishly bordered with 24k gold, numbered by hand and bears the artist's signature. Image Size: 12 x 12 in. Overall Size: 22 x 22.75 in. Unframed. (B14526)

Don Balke (North Carolina, B. 1933) "Cardinal" Signed lower right. Original Watercolor on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This artwork was originally published on the Fleetwood Commemorative Cover for the limited edition collection of The Songbirds of the Fifty States. Each cover was postmarked on the anniversary of statehood in the appropriate state capital. The Cardinal is distinguished by its flamboyant looks and proud voice. The male dresses in full red plumage and wears a proud crest that he raises and lowers at will. A black mark, a stout coral-red bill, and dark red feet also mark the bird. The female is much more subdued in her dress. She has an olive-gray back, dull reddish wings and crest, and soft pink-brown underparts. Unlike the female of most species, the female Cardinal is as accomplished a vocalist as the male. As the female weaves the deep cup of bark strips, rootlets, and grass and lines it with fine grass or hair, the male follows her about and voices his most melodious song. He feeds her during the two weeks that she incubates the eggs and while she prepares for a second brood, he often assumes the care of the fledglings. Image Size: 8.5 x 8.75 in. Overall Size: 18 x 18 in. Unframed. (B07106)

Herb Kawainui Kane (American, 1928 - 2011) "Traditional Marshallese Messenger" Signed lower right. Original Oil on Illustration Board. Comes with original sketch of stamp layout also. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting was originally published on the Republic of the Marshall Islands 29c 10th Anniversary of Postal Service Souvenir Sheet issued May 2, 1994. Before mail service was initiated in the Marshall Islands, correspondence was transported both by foot and canoe. When missives were sent between chiefs, the messenger would also deliver a gift chosen in accordance with the recipient's status. Often the token would be a fine handcrafted item or food, such as preserved pandanus fruit. Even the dress of the carrier was determined by the recipient's social position. When messages were brought by canoe, the carrier stood by the outrigger section of the boat and signaled to those on shore. A raised paddle was a sign of peace while one that was vigorously waved indicated that the message was urgent. In 1984, the government of the Marshall Islands established its own postal administration for domestic mail. This painting displays traditional methods of message delivery. Image Size: 21.25 x 27.25 in. Overall Size: 23.75 x 29.75 in. Unframed. (B14646)
