Circle of Samuel Woodforde (1763-1817)Portrait of a lady, bust-length in profile, in a white dressoil on canvas61 x 51cmCondition ReportThe canvas is unlined. There is craquelure throughout and stretcher marks, which has begun to make the surface is a little uneven. There are a few touches of discoloured restoration to the skin tones where there has been an attempt to infill the craquelure, see illustration. Under UV light, the surface is fluorescing however, this appears to be an effect of pooling varnish rather than any further signs of restoration. Generally therefore, the painting is in original condition. It would be fairly straightforward for a restorer to remove the discolouration to the face and re-apply.

The surface is covered with a thick and dirty varnish layer which makes any reading under UV light difficult, however, there are some small retouchings to the bosom and to the forehead, and small specks elsewhere.
