dating: Mid 19th Century provenance: Papal States, Large, convex-edged, iron head, with a long beak curved downwards. The shaft of elliptical section, provided with brass caps at the two ends. The upper side also featuring two iron spring lugs. See an extremely similar axe in 'L'Esercito Pontificio, da Castelfidardo a Porta Pia 1860 - 1870' by Brandani / Crociani / Firoentino (ed. Intergest 1976, Milano): a drawing of a sapper in parade dress uniform of year 1865 carrying the same axe model (page 10). On page 38 a colored drawing showing a sapper of the Line Infantry Regiment, again in parade dress uniform, leaning on his axe, clearly visible this time, identical to ours. Finally near the drawing a photograph of 'tools and epaulets for a sapper' where the same type of axe can clearly be seen. Interesting. height 105 cm.
Maruxa Fondevila (Pontevedra, 1978)Recreation of the outfits that appear on three different covers of "Vogue" magazine illustrated by Eduardo García Benito (Valladolid, 1881 - 1981).The images that illustrate this lot correspond to the wonderful photographs that Joan Tomás took for La Suite Subastas. They are part of a session made with the aim of bringing the dresses we auction to life.Three dresses. The detail of each of the dresses is:Dress 1: The body is made of white crepe on which three rows of fringes are sewn, forming waves. The neckline is formed by strips of rhinestones sewn on mink-coloured tulle; and the skirt comprises five sand-coloured crepe ruffles forming peaks in the front and back centre. On the peaks and on the side are tulle godets embroidered with pale pink sequins and the same fabric as the godets is affixed to the ruffles.The accessories include wristbands with three fringe ruffles each and a necklace of rhinestone strips to match the ones on the neckline of the dress.It is accompanied by a maroon velvet, double-breasted coat with great swing and wide sleeves. The neckline area and the edge of the cuffs are trimmed with imitation grey fox fur.Dress size 1: 38-40 Europe, 10-12 UK, 8-10 USA, 40-42 France. Due to the shape of the dress, it would fit a size 42 Europe, 14 UK, 12 USA, 44 France. Length measurements: 110 cm. The coat is adaptable to any size.Dress 2: The top part is a blouse and its skirt is in two sections that close like an apron, thus making it adjustable to several different sizes. It is made of very fine tulle dotted with dusky pink pearls on pink crepe that gives the dress body.It is accompanied by a cape made of mauve-pink wild silk embroidered with rhinestones and sequins in the same colour range. The neck is embroidered with crystal paillettes in a stronger shade of pink, with two strips of pink chiffon forming the bow that closes the cape. In the centre of the back, as well as on both fronts, feathers are affixed.Dress size 2: 38-40 Europe, 10-12 UK, 8-10 USA, 40-42 France. Due to the shape of the dress, it would fit a size 42 Europe, 14 UK, 12 USA, 44 France. Length measurements: 125 cm.Dress 3: Made of pearl grey beaded embroidered tulle over powder pink Italian satin, also called "angel skin”. It is a dress with wide straps at the back up to the waist and two draped strips on the front neckline that end in two long trains, with which you can play around to create different effects.Dress size 3: 38 Europe, 10 UK, 8 USA, 40 France. Length measurements: 110 cm.
A 1930's silk day dress/jacket ensemble, black ground with beige and red floral pattern, 3 1940's dresses, two in black, one embellished with sequins and frill detail to peplum waist, the other has white floral crochet detail at the front yolk, with diamante centres together with a brown wool day dress.
