AN OFFICER'S UNIFORM OF THE ROYAL HORSE ARTILLERY a Full Dress blue jacket by J Daniels & Co, Woolwich, edged all round with gold basket cord. 18 loops of the same cord each side in front, fastened by brass KC regimental ball buttons. Upright collar of scarlet cloth, edged with gold "Broken Bias" lace and bearing grenades in silver embroidery. Austrian knots to sleeves, in cord traced with Russia braid, and backseam ornaments of the same cord forming a crowsfoot at the top and Austrian knot at the bottom. Replacement shoulder-cords, also of basket cord, bearing QEC Colonel's badges of rank in silver embroidery. Fine quilted drab lining with maker's label named to WE Mann Esq RHA. Lace and cord slightly dull. Together with a set of gold cord cap-lines with acorn finials, and a pouch-belt. The pouch with blue cloth flap edged with gold lace and bearing the Gun in metal and QEC Royal Arms, oak and bayleaf sprays and motto scrolls in gold embroidery. A GERMAN COMB-MORION, NUREMBERG, CIRCA 1580, WITH LATER ETCHED DECORATION formed in one piece with a hemispherical crown rising to a high roped medial comb, and an integral brim turned down at each side, rising to an obtuse point at the front and rear (the front one slightly bruised), decorated around its edge with a file-roped inward turn, the front struck with the quality-control mark of the city of Nuremberg (the rear and sides each pierced with later wiring-holes), the base of the crown encircled by twelve round-headed lining-rivets with rosette-washers of iron (one washer missing), etched on each side of the crown with a circular cartouche enclosing, on the right, a representation of the Sacrifice of Isaac, and on the left, a mounted huntsman carrying a spear, in each case overlaying a pattern of alternating vertical bands respectively comprised of arabesque interlace and scrolling foliage inhabited by birds of prey, the latter design repeated on the comb and the brim and involving in the case of the former, oval cartouches enclosing, on the right, a soldier holding a banner, and on the left, a drummer, each in contemporary dress, the etching executed throughout on a blackened and stippled ground (light wear and patination overall 29.1 cm; 11 1/2 in high

A BRITISH STAFF OFFICER'S SWORD BASED ON THE 1822 PATTERN BRITISH INFANTRY OFFICER'S SWORD, CIRCA 1837-45 with pipe-backed blade, etched with 'VR' crowned on each face, motto, crest and initials of William John Gairdner at the forte, regulation gilt-brass hilt, wire-bound fishskin-covered grip, in its steel scabbard with loops for suspension, the locket engraved 'Captn. & Adjt. W.J. Gairdner from Coll. U. Yule 1823' 85.1 cm; 33 ½ in blade The blade has been added to the hilt in its service life. This sword's brass guard is specified in Dress Regulations 1822 as that to be worn by generals and Staff officers with effect from that date; generals adopted a completely different pattern of sword in 1831. Its blade is of the 'pipe-backed' form specified for the swords of Cavalry and Infantry officers in 1822 and current until 1845. William John Gairdner (1789-1861) was commissioned ensign in the 10th Bengal Native Infantry in 1808. He was promoted lieutenant, 2nd Battalion, 10th Bengal Native Infantry, in 1814, captain, 14th Bengal Native Infantry, in 1824, major in 1835 and lieutenant-colonel in 1842. Transferring to the 16th Bengal Native Infantry in 1846, he was promoted colonel of the 63rd Bengal Native Infantry in 1852, returning to Scotland on furlough in the same year. He was promoted major general in 1854 and died at Strathtyrum House, St Andrews, Fife, in February 1861. Gairdner was regularly on active service between 1809 and 1850, serving in the Nepal War of 1816, the Third Maratha War of 1817-18, the First Burma War of 1826, the Gwalior Campaign of 1843 and the First Sikh War of 1845-46. He was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB) in 1846.

Upright collar edged with gold "oakleaf" pattern lace and bearing oakleaf sprays in gold embroidery. Gauntlet cuffs, also edged with oakleaf lace, traced with a double row of gold Russia braid, and with embroidered oak sprays. Fine gilt buttons, mounted with KC Royal Arms: nine to front, two at the waist behind, three under each skirt-slash and two at the bottom of the skirts. Two sets of beckets for breast-stars. Black quilted lining, slightly defective. Companion trousers with 2 ½ inch gold lace stripes. A folding black silk bicorne with triple gold bullion loop secured by a button as on coatee, and bullion tassels at the ends. Black silk lining with label of Marshall & Co, 57 Jermyn St. Together with a double-breasted evening dress coatee by Pleydell & Sons, 6 Cork St, with black velvet collar. Twelve large and six small buttons as on the Full Dress. Maker's label named to RM Makins Esq and dated 20/3/31

Black silk and lace vintage 1920's long sleeved flapper dress with black lace panel to front and back and lace collar. There are silk flower decorations on the side near the waist. Measurements taken with dress lying flat:113cm long, shoulder to shoulder 41cm, chest 46cm and waist 49cm approx.(B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Generally in very good condition for its age. Some whitish marks around the collar which look like they might be removable with washing. A few small pinprick holes in the silk as expected with age. Small amount of damage to lace on front panel.
Black silk and lace vintage 1920's long sleeved belted flapper dress with a row of buttons down the centre of the dress. The belt is black silk with a diamante buckle. The sleeves are sheer with lace inserts and a popper at the cuffs. There is also one popper at the collar. There are lace inserts down the front of the dress and two tiers of lace at the bottom of the dress.Measurements taken with dress lying flat:115cm long, shoulder to shoulder 41cm, chest 47cm, waist 44cm and hips 52cm approx.(B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: The belt buckle is missing one of the diamante. The dress is generally in very good condition for its age. Some very slight wear to fabric commensurate with age. Bottom of underskirt is damaged.
