A LARGE 19TH CENTURY MEISSEN FIGURAL CENTREPIECE 'The Music Lesson', after the model by Michel Victor Acier, polychrome enamelled and gilt decoration, underglaze blue crossed swords marks to base (cancelled), impressed model no. F74, red painted '39', 30cm high Condition Report : generally good - tip of arrow lost, some fingertips, and slight loss to petals of flowers. There is a hairline crack - which looks to be a firing crack - around the dress of the kneeling lady, and a chip beneath the glaze to her heel, which may be the reason for the cancelled crossed swords. The image of three tenors in formal evening dress singing in a World Cup concert captivated the global audience. The recording of this debut concert became the best-selling classical album of all time and led to additional performances and live albums. They performed to a global television audience at three further World Cup Finals: 1994 in Los Angeles, 1998 in Paris, and 2002 in Yokohama.
