British School (19th century) - A portrait of Frazer Bradshaw Henshaw Esq. Oil on canvas 67 x 56cm (26 1/4 x 22in.) The portrait here is offered with a parcel gilt and coloured ink parchment Resolution, dated 1868, thanking him for his work and noting that a shield of Henshaw's Arms would be placed in the Company's Hall. (2) Henshaw was Chairman of the National Bank of Ireland and between 1865 and 1868 Prime Warden of the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers. It is thought that this portrait shows Henshaw attired in the dress of Prime Warden of his guild. .

A finely produced “Muster Roll of the Royal East Kent Mounted Rifles, May 1890”, partly printed, partly executed by hand, and coloured in gilt, red, yellow and pale blue; at the top the names of the Hon Colonel (D of Connaught), Lt Col Commanding and 2 Majors, and below these the names of the officers, NCO’s and men of A, B, C, D, E and F Companies inscribed in and around 6 crowned stars each with the Horse of Kent and regimental title in the centre, all surrounding a mounted officer of the regiment in full dress, and interspersed with a wreath of ivy; artist’s name “By G Hicks” in lower right corner, 33½” x 28½” overall, mounted and framed in oak with gilt inner frame. A miniature on ivory of Brigadier General Alexander Pope, half length in full dress, 4½” x 3¼”, gilt inner frame, on ebony 7” x 6” overall; ink written note on back “Portrait of Brigadier Genl Pope who commanded the left wing Cavalry at the battle of Chillianwallah (1849) where he was wounded and subsequently died from his wounds. He married my grandmother (name unclear) who died at Bath about 1890. See Alison’s Europe, Vol VII, page 102. 19th Nov 1906” with a recent additional note that Pope led the 6th Light Cavalry. A Communist period Bulgarian officer’s dress dagger, diamond section blade with central fuller, 9¼”, brass hilt into flattened S shaped crossguard, swollen square section grip with roped central band up to plated pommel with a star on the top, in its brass mounted WM sheath, the locket embossed on one side, with rampant lion and classical building with star pinnacle on the other, suspension chains and belt clip, with waistbelt and plate with lion and star. An officer’s 1821 pattern sword of the 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons, very slightly curved blade 35½”, by “Jones, Chalk & Dawson, Sackville St London W” no 1400 on backstrap, etched with flat topped crowned, reversed and interlaced VR cypher on one side and on the other similar crowned “6”, “Inniskilling” castle and “Dragoons” on the other, all in stylized foliate panels, pierced scroll pattern steel guard, chequered pommel and backstrap, including fishskin grip, red cloth on buff leather lining with blue edging, crimson and gilt dress knot, in its polished steel scabbard with 2 rings. An Elizabeth II Royal Air Force officer’s dress sword, straight fullered blade 32½”, by Wilkinson Sword Ltd, no 94450 on backstrap, etched on one side with crowned Royal Arms and on the other with RAF crowned wings, all its foliate and blank scroll panels, gilt brass hilt with half basket guard with turn over inner edge, pierced and panelled incorporating crowned ERII cypher and crowned wings on raised oval, eagle’s head pommel, plain backstrap, wirebound white sharkskin grip, in its black polished leather scabbard with gilt locket, middle band and chape, with 2 rings, blue and gilt dress knot. A Highland full dress dirk, polished blade 11½”, with scalloped back edge and narrow fuller for two thirds length, well carved strapwork, bog oak hilt with studs, thistle embossed silver coloured lower band and rim to facetted “citrine” pommel, in its black leather scabbard with scroll engraved silver coloured mounts, the locket with escutcheon engraved with a script “M”, companion knife and fork en suite with hilt, set with “citrines”. A fine silver Victorian Royal Artillery officer’s mess sweetmeat holder, comprising a bulbous based central column with a flared foliate bowl top and 3 branches with rosettes (one missing) each supporting on slender twisted stems (one broken) a cut glass dish with silver base, all of which is on a circular base, diameter 8½”, on 3 pedestal feet, the whole embossed and moulded overall with stepped foliate and floral devices in columns and panels, on the base is a well modelled field gun and standing artillery man in full dress holding a rammer, height overall 18”, weight (without glass) 5lbs 6 ozs (2.44kg), Hallmarked JB & Co Birmingham 1874. Basically Very Good Condition. Plate 7
A large and impressive free standing early Victorian silver presentation trophy, the body embellished with applied branches of ivy, with free standing figure of a cavalry officer in full dress with shako, and holding a Union flag, on either side, elaborate acanthus leaf stem and base with scrolled feet, the body engraved “Presented to Lt. Colonel John Bennett Hearsey of the 6th Light Cavalry by Major General Watson and other officers of the Bengal Cavalry as a Small Token of their Regard and Esteem, 1846”. On the other side, in script, 18 battle honours “Delhi” to “Sobraon”, stepped lid with oak wreath rim and on the top a mounted figure of an officer with flag pole and pennant, Indian Hallmark on the base H & Co, an elephant, on trophy capital “A”, and trident head, height 18”, weight 8lbs 7ozs (3.84kg). Basically Very Good Condition (a few parts detached but present). Plate 8 Note: The hallmark is that of Hamilton & Co, Calcutta, a firm started by Robert Hamilton in 1808, which acquired numerous partners and opened branches all over India.
