A Chinese Silver - Inlaid Bronze Figure of a Guanyin, Qing dynasty, 19th century. Depicted standing, The Guanyin hands clasped in front of her. She is dressed in a long dress embellished with cloud patterns in silver inlays. It bears a silver-encrusted signature of ''Yutang Shisou'' on the back. The mark 'Yutang Shisou' may be translated 'Old man rock of the jade hall'. The expression of his face is serene, his forehead is enhanced with the silver-encrusted urna. 48.5cm high. Provenance: From the Estate of Alfred and Irene Morley and thence by descent to the current owner. Alfred ( Bob) Morley (1890-1971) was a British journalist and diplomat . He lived from 1915 till 1941 in Hongkong and Shanghai , He was editor for both the Hong-Kong Telegraph andthe South China Morning Post , in 1931 He settled in Shanghai as Editor for the Shanghai Times. He was also president of the Rotary Club Shanghai. From March 1940 he was Press Attaché at the British embassy in Shanghai .A similar bronze was sold by Christies Paris in Art dAsie on 12 June 2019, lot 173, for EUR 50,000.

A sapphire and diamond dress ring, the oval mixed-cut sapphire claw set between pairs of tapered baguette-cut diamonds, above a scrolled gallery, indistinctly stamped '18K', total diamond weight approximately 0.28ct, ring size MThe sapphire has a deep greenish-blue hue with surface wear, scuffs and scattered chips to the girdle, measuring approx. 8.8mm length x 7.5mm width x 4.6mm depth. Diamonds are well matched and bright but one stone contains a fracture/chip to the base, the remaining diamonds with estimated H to J colour and VS2 to SI2 clarity, assessed mounted. The mount appears to be relatively modern with some heavy surface wear, chips, scuffs and patchy tarnishing. The shank has a patchy yellowish/off-white hue. Metal standard is untested. Gross weight approx. 2.5gm.

An emerald and diamond dress ring, designed as an abstract tiered cluster of rectangular step-cut emeralds and graduated single-cut diamonds in grain and claw settings, to a bifurcated hoop, white precious metal mounted, stamped '585', total diamond weight approximately 0.40ct, ring size R½Both of the emeralds have chips and surface-reaching fractures with a cloudy, translucent to opaque appearance and contain multiple fissure and mineral inclusions. The emeralds measure approximately 3 to 3.5mm in length x width. Diamonds have slightly variable colour and clarity, some stones with small nicks/chips and surface-reaching fractures, estimated SI1 to P1 clarity and H to K colour, assessed mounted. Diamonds graduate in size from approximately 0.03ct to 0.005ct. The ring mount is relatively modern with surface wear, nicks and scuffs and the back of the shank has been re-sized, with associated solder joins and porosity. Length of setting approx. 1.8cm. Metal standard is untested. Gross weight approx. 5.9gm.

A sapphire and diamond dress ring, the oval mixed-cut sapphire collet set between two rows of graduated round brilliant-cut diamonds, yellow precious metal mounted, with French eagle's head mark and partial maker's mark, total diamond weight approximately 0.45ct, ring size NThe sapphire has a mid-blue hue with areas of whiteish colour zoning and small chips, scuffs and nicks to the surface, measuring approx. 7.8mm length x 5.8mm width x 3.9mm depth. Diamonds are well matched, bright and lively, occasional stones with small nicks, the remaining with estimated VS1 to SI2 clarity and H to J colour, assessed mounted. The mount has surface wear, chips, scuffs and nicks and the shank has been re-sized. Marks are rubbed. Gross weight approx. 5.2gm.

A zodiac dress ring, the uniform band applied with a frieze of astrological motifs to a textured ground, yellow precious metal mounted, ring size R - SThis lot is from the estate of Edward Alfred Alexander Baldwin (1938 - 2021). Edward was the grandson of Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin, and the fourth Earl Baldwin of Bewdley. Stanley Baldwin was from an extraordinary family: Rudyard Kipling was his first cousin, Edward Burne-Jones and Edward Poynter were both uncles, his mother Louisa was a novelist, and her siblings included the famous Macdonald sisters. Edward Baldwin was committed to rehabilitating his grandfather's reputation and, being an only child, spent much of his life as sole custodian of these family objects.Scuffs, scratches, chips and nicks throughout, commensurate for use, with a considerable amount of grease and dirt residue that requires cleaning. Fine surface split to interior of band and small area of filing to inner rim. Width of band approx. 9mm. Age and maker unknown. The mount is not marked and metal standard is untested. Gross weight approx. 7gm.
