The 35-inch straight blade etched with crowned G V R cypher and 'AVC' for Army Veterinary Corps, also branded for Holt & Son, 20 Sackville Street, London. W. In leather field scabbard and foul weather frog, initialed 'F.J.S.' for Captain Frederick J. Sheedy MBE HM; and accompanied by a steel dress scabbard in chamois frog. Sword length 43in. (109.22cm) Provenance: By descent to the present owner.

Sword: A quality General & Staff Officers sword. In the pattern of the 1796 Heavy Cavalry dress sword. Silver hallmarked (Birmingham 1826) knucklebow with 'pas-de-ane' rings below. Pipe back blade 31" with typical late 18th century deep blued decoration and quill point tip. Silver wire bound grip. In its silver hallmarked mounted leather scabbard (chape leather detached). A good piece for restoration. Old repair to handle noted.
