The paint is thin in places and flattened as a result of the restoration process. Fairly pronounced cracquelure especially across the sisters areas of flesh and her left shoulder and stomach essentially within the red paint. Other areas of cracquelure more visible as a result of deteriorated varnish. Possibly cut down? as top of feigned oval and hairstyle somewhat cropped. Some surface dirt, three main small spots of retouching or repair within the ladies hair. The right-hand side to include that in darker shadows and the hair that falls beside her neck is generally strengthened and overpainted. Sporadic retouches within background with more comprehensive dtengthening throughout. Retouches and strengthening to old cracquelure evient across the fabric draped along her right shoulder and arm. General strengthening within the drapery and shadows within the corner point of the teal coloured fabric on her right-hand side. retouches to outer part of feigned oval in lower left hand corner. Strengthening/retouching to shadows below the lower white chemise. Strengthening to darker tones of cuff at her left-hand side wrist. The hair at her right-hand shoulder added or strengthened with further retouches and strengthening to the background upper right. Retouches and infilling to cracquelure evident within the teal coloured fabric nearest edge of feigned oval lower left-hand side etc. Any other points of restoration not specifically mentioned.

Karl Meunier (1864-1894) Belgian "Jeune fille du Piano" Signed, signed and inscribed verso, oil on canvas, 43cm by 30.5cmProvenance: De Vuyst Gallery, Lokeren, BelgiumIn fully restored condition, slightly stiffly relined cleaned and re-varnished. Retouches to upper left-hand corner, and likely some sporadic strengthening throughout the darker tones of the curtain. Further sporadic retouches to strengthen part of the piano front and the shadow and definition at the lady's wrists. A similar amount of strengthening and retouching through the lower parts and shadows of the piano underside and feet. Further sporadic retouches within darker tones and folds of her dress collar, her left-hand shoulder, around shoulder blades and general waist and lap area. In addition to the extremities of her skirt. The curved piano stool leg and foot has been strengthened as has the background immediately around this with further touches through the shadows of the foreground and the lower wooden part of the window, in addition to some finer strengthening to the upper window frame etc. Areas of stable cracquelure, paint slightly thin in places and flattened as a result of the restoration process.

Retains fairly good surface following restoration procees. Some light surface dirt and discoloured varnish now in evidence. Canvas slightly loose on stretcher. Retouching and strengthening to the shadows and corners of the doorway that the policeman stands in, in addition in patch in the background behind his left-hand shoulder and the area behind his right hand. Further sporadic retouches to edges of the doorway and elements of background and his uniform. Some general retouching and strengthening to the timbre of the closed door of which the far left-hand side boy stands in ront of in addition to the upright panels of the top 50%. More sporadic retouching through the saddlery hung from the right-hand side door and within the background around this area. Delicate retouches to the bottle on the mantelpiece and elsewhere within the background in general. The front part of the quilt hanging down from the bed shows signs of retouching. Further delicate retouching across the white dress of the standing blonde-haired girl presumably to old flaked paint and a small amount to the skirt of the seated mother nearest to the costume of the blonde girl and to a lesser extent elsewhere on her shawl etc. Fine retouching to the right-hand side lower edge. Otherwise in a broadly good table and highly presentable state of presentation.

English school, 18th century, head and shoulders portrait of a young lady, in a blue dress, oil on canvas, 77 x 64cmHas two holes, one level with her mouth in the background and another at the bottom of her right hand sleeve. The surface is dirty and has a fine crazing within the paint. There are several lighter marks on the surface. Frame looks old and could be original to the picture, stamped SIMS on the stretcher. Has been re-mounted in recent years. No visible signature, but well painted. Was collected from a house move in Sudbury with lot 182. Unfortunately we are unable to comment on the cost of restoration.
