William Ridgway, early 20th century British school, a monochromatic etching, a theatrical performance, signed in pencil to margin, together with an Ackermann engraving, 'The First Carriage, The Ariel', together with two other Mulock polychrome prints and one other comical figural print of golfing interest.
Edward VII 1897 Pattern Sword and Associated Items Attributed to Lt Col C E C Bartlett, MC, 1st Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment, the sword is complete with the leather covered field service scabbard. Grip retains the original wire. Blade is well worn with much of the etching now missing. WKC mark to the base of the blade. Accompanied by EPNS tankard presented by the Singapore Polo Club, October 1921, Hallmarked Silver christening cup presented by the warrant officers and sergeants of B company 1st battalion South Staffordshire regiment, October 1925 and a small polished wood cigar / cigarette box with mother of pearl inset regimental cap badge and name plaque to the lid. (4 items).
Victorian 1827 Pattern Royal Navy Warrant Officers Sword with black fish skin grip. Gilt brass dish guard with fouled anchor and Victorian crown. Housed in its original leather and brass mounted scabbard. Blade with the remains of the original etching and Victorian crowned anchor. Makers mark is not clear. Leather on the scabbard has shrunk and the gilt fittings are loose. Grip wire missing.
Danish Officers Military Dirk circa 1820's, curved blade 11.5" etched with crowned FR VI (king Frederick 6th) cipher and foliage, the etching gilt and with traces of blueing overall, copper crosspiece, one piece ivory grip (decorative rivets missing) in its brass sheath with twin hanging rings, engraved on one side with foliage. Good condition.
Grouping of Regimental Commemorative Plaques including No2 Commando 11th SAS 1st Parachute Battalion, Royal Observer Corps with brass plaque which reads From Officers & Staff of Metropolitan Area 1973-1977, Airborne Engineers Association, The Glider Regimental Association, Royal Marines, Royal Observer Corps copper etching and a framed modern made reproduction of a 44th Indian Airborne division car flag. § Gerald Leslie Brockhurst, RA, RE (British, 1890-1978) Pepita signed in pencil lower right "G Brockhurst" etching 13 x 12cm (5 x 5in) During the 1930s and 1940s Gerald Brockhurst was celebrated as a portraitist, painting society figures such as Marlene Dietrich and the Duchess of Windsor. Today he is best known for his small etched prints of beautiful, idealized women - many of them modelled by his first and second wives. A little browned and with 2 foxing spots to the margins.
After Meret Oppenheim, (German, 1913-1985), a bronze model of Giacometti's ear, initialled to reverse and numbered 32/500, with the dates 1933-1977 below, mounted on a turned wooded base 19cm (7in) Meret Oppenheim (1913 - 1985) German born Swiss Surrealist artist and photographer. A member of the Surrealist movement along with Marcel Duchamp and Max Ernst. In 1932 she moved to Paris, the following year meeting Alberto Giacometti who invited her to participate in the Surrealist exhibition in the Salon des Surindependants of that year. Her best known piece of work , 'Object (Le Dejeuner en fourrure)' , is a teacup, saucer and spoon covered in gazelle fur. It is displayed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. A major retrospective of her work was held in 2013 in Berlin with lenders including David Bowie and Ursual Hauser. An etching by Oppenheim of Giacometti's ear was sold at Bonhams in 1999.
Julian Trevelyan, RA (British, 1910-1988) Harbour signed within the print "Julian Trevelyan '46" and "SP9" a lithographic print in colours, a School Print, printed in England at the Baynard Press for School Prints Ltd., London 48 x 75cm (19 x 29in) Julian Trevelyan taught at Chelsea (1950-55) and at the Royal College of Art (1955-63), becoming Head of Etching. Besides some mural work, he was a prolific printmaker and illustrator, and he became a Royal Academician in 1987. "Harbour" was the first lithograph that Trevelyan made.
§ Dorothy Bordass, RE (British, 1905-1992) In Holkham Dunes signed and dated lower right "Bordass '79" and numbered 7/25 etching with aquatint 22 x 41cm (9 x 16in) Exhibited: Darlington City Arts Centre. Condition appears fine. Provenance: From the collection of the late Christopher Hogwood, CBE
