DOCUMENTARY VICTORIAN TIFFANY SILVER PEPPERETTE WITH ROYAL PROVENANCE, 1879, in the Aesthetic taste, from the 'Harlequin' set, tapering quatre-lobed form with lateral rib, engraved with foliage, pierced push-on cover with copper knop, strap handle with foliate pierced copper grille, raised on four short bracket feet, the base stamped 'Tiffany & Co Sterling Silver and Other Metals', pattern no. 5141, order no. 9720, etching design no. 153, also engraved presentation inscription 'GIVEN BY T.R.H. PRINCE & PRINCESS OF WALES, XMAS 1879'Dimensions: 9.2cms highProvenance:inherited within the family of a private collection North Wales, consigned via our Colwyn Bay office, family records do not record how the pepperette came into the familyAuctioneer's Note:Inscription refers to Prince Albert Edward & Princess Alexandra of Denmark, later King Edward VII & Queen Consort. Tiffany Archive records the entry for order 9720 for a '5141' Pepper, in the Silver Manufacturing Ledger no.3. costing 10.00 for making and 14.00 for etching. Etching design is illustrated in appendix 2 of the archive, and the 1879 Blue Book, p. 89, documents H.R.H The Prince of Wales at the top of the purchaser list. Accompanying the lot is the Tiffany research certificate dated November 2021.Condition Report:small ding to base, knop slightly skewed.
