Clerk, John, of Eldin A series of etchings chiefly of views in Scotland... with additional etchings and facsimiles from his drawings. Edinburgh: Bannatyne Club, 1855, first collected edtion, large folio, lithographed portrait frontispiece and 55 lithographed or etched plates, some with two or more views, tissue guards, recent black half morocco, raised bands, marbled sides, spine gilt Note: John Clerk (1736-1812), artist, author and parliamentarian, was one of the few eighteenth-century Scottish practitioners of etching and his landsape etchings, as well as being important documentary records, are often seen as important precursors to the etching revival of the mid nineteenth century.
