The poem in Dutch in four columns below the image is signed 'Philadelphus', nom de plume of Gysbert Tyssens (1693-1732), who also wrote six plays concerning the Wind Trade.

Brass guard with Victorian crowned anchor cartouche and folding rear section. Quillon absent. Brass lion mask pommel and backstrap. Shagreen covered grip with twist wire binding. Now contained in a steel scabbard with two loose hanging rings.

Contained in its leather covered, field scabbard.

Top frame flat with floral engraving and maker Springfield Arms Co. Steel body, grip frame and trigger guard with scroll foliage engraving. Offset percussion hammer with foliage engraving. Polished wooden slab grips. According to various records, only approx 100 of this pattern were made.
