Erna Hoppe-Kinross,German/British 1875-1964 - Jouant aux sables (Playing in the sands); oil on board, signed lower left 'E Hoppe', titled to artist's label on the reverse, 21 x 19.3 cm: together with 3 other works by the same artist of a similar size and smaller, including 'Boulevard', 'St. Briac' and an etching on paper 'Breton women' (4) (ARR) Provenance:the Family of the Artists Grace English and Erna Hoppe-Kinross Note:Hoppe-Kinross lived in Paris from 1906-14, where she exhibited at the Salons and at the Societe Nationale des Beaux-Arts. The present lot has been recorded to have been exhibited at Salon in 1907. She met her husband Charles Kinross there and they married. They had a holiday home at Giverny where they befriended Claude Monet - under his influence this was to become her most important period of painting.
A collection of six prints The first after Godfried Schalcken (Dutch 1643-1706), a young instrument player, engraving; the second François-Bernard Lépicié (French 1698-1755) after C. D. Moore, 'Le Jeu des Échecs', engraving, c.1746; a prospect of a Paris boulevard of the Louis XVI period, hand-coloured engraving; a boy with his mother holding grapes, etching and aquatint; 18th Century Welsh School, charcoal kiln view on the River Teivy, hand-coloured aquatint, 22cm x 23cm; and an offset lithograph after an aquatint of an interior scene.Qty: 5The first with notable toning, some damage to the paper in the upper left and minor damage to the figure's face. The second with some mount burn and light foxing. The third with notable toning and foxing, particularly in the upper half. The fourth with notable foxing. The fifth with some damage and repairs to the frame, losses to the black-painted glass slip, notable toning throughout. The sixth with some worm damage.
After Antoine-Jean Gros (French 1771-1835) ‘Napoleon on the Battlefield of Eylau’, etching, dated ‘July 1833’, with an ink stamp to the margin.57cm high x 77.5cm wide to the marginQty: 1A notable tear in the paper running from the lower left, approximately 10cm into the inked area of the picture. Slight toning. The paper appears to have been trimmed and later re-mounted to give the impression of a plate mark.

Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778) etching - Ruins of Villa Adriana (Hadrians Villa), the Golden Square, 47cm x 62cm, in glazed frame Somewhat tired condition, it has been cut with little of the margin left. It doesn't appear to be fully laid down although it is possible that the visible staining is from an adhesive behind. A visible crease running down the image through the middle. It is a period image with no edition number. No known provenance.
