An 1821 pattern light cavalry officer’s prize sword, slightly curved, fullered blade 34½” by Reeves, Maker, Birmingham, etched with crowned VR cypher, trophy and “Presented by B. Watson Esq to. (unclear) Wainwright Kitson of Captain Taylor’s, or H Troop, 1st W.Y.Y.C, as the best swordsman at the competition held at Doncaster, 16th May 1878”, regulation triple bar steel hilt with sideloop, stepped pommel, plain backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, in its steel scabbard with 2 rings. Basically GC with a dark patina to hilt and scabbard (blade worn and pitted, the etching generally faint)
