A good example, the single edged slightly curved blade with etched decoration, comprising a crowned cypher and "1st East York Artillery Volunteers". Retailer's details of J.Greenwood, York. Three bar open guard with shagreen grip with twist wire binding. Housed in original polished steel scabbard. GC with minor age wear, etching clear. 1st East Yorkshire Volunteer Artillery were headquartered at Burlington, later moved to Scarborough.
Welsh Guards Officer's Regimental Levée Pattern Sword A scarce George V World War One example by Wilkinson Sword London Blade number 52937. Thin blade with GvR crowned cypher. Reverse with regimental badge surmounted by a crown. Open guard with the regimental device, shagreen grip with twist wire binding. Housed in original brown leather field scabbard. Etching remains clear. The absent of Battle Honours to the blade indicates a WWI example. The sword has been refurbished and is parade condition. The scabbard is with wear. The blade number indicates made November 1916.
Coldstream Guards Officer's Regimental Levée Pattern Sword A good George V period example retailed by Johns & Pebb of London. Thin blade with GvR crowned cypher. Reverse with regimental badge surmounted by a crown and Battle Honours the last been "Hindenburg Line". Open guard with the regimental device, shagreen grip with twist wire binding. Housed in original correct pattern steel scabbard and fitted with white buff leather and bullion sword knot. Etching remains clear.
Royal Navy Flag Officer's 1827 Piped Back Bladed Sword. A good example example of the pattern, of a weight indicating a fighting sword. The single edged piped back blade with etched decoration of a Royal Coat of Arms and a crowned fouled anchor. To the forte the cutler's details of "Procure" and bearing a heavy stamp of a Crowned P. The hilt of the regulation pattern, the solid gilt guard with crowned fouled anchor device, a white shagreen grip surmounted by a lion head pommel. The folding guard, with an Armourial crest and entwined initials. Housed in original black leather scabbard, with gilt metal mounts of embossed oak leaves and acorns indicating Flag Rank. Etching to blade faint, otherwise GC. The cutlers details would indicate pre 1853.
William IV 1822 Pattern Officer's Piped Back Bladed Officer's Sword. A very good period example, the piped back blade with etched panel with Crowned WIVR cypher. This device is repeated to the regulation pattern gilt metal hilt. Black shagreen grip with twist wire binding. Housed in black leather and gilt mounted scabbard. Etching to the blade is clear, gilt bright and leather supple. Near VGC.
Victorian 10th Hussars Pair of Officer's Swords by Wilkinson of London. A fine and rare pair of swords, representing both Dress and Levee Dress patterns. The light cavalry pattern dress sword with single edged slightly curved blade, with etched decoration of a crowned reverse entwined VR Cypher, Regimental device and family crest. The forte with the cutler's details of Wilkinson Sword and the blade bears the number "30639" (1891). The guard of regulation pattern with three bar open guard with shagreen grip. Housed in steel scabbard. The overall condition is near VGC, etching clear, some wear and knocks to the scabbard ... Accompanied by the Levee Pattern sword. The narrow blade again etched with a crowned reverse entwined "VR" cypher, the reverse with matching family crest. The forte with Wilkinson sword cutler's details (blade not numbered). The hilt with three bar open guard. Housed in correct pattern narrow scabbard. GC Clean condition (2 items)
1822 / 46 Pattern Sword for General and Staff Officers by Henry Wilkinson. A good example, the single edged slightly curved blade bearing etched decoration of a crowned entwined VR cypher and floral decoration; on the reverse is a General Officer's device. To the forte of the blade the cutler's details and the blade is numbered 8954. Gilt brass three bar open guard again with General Officer's device. Shagreen grip with twist wire binding. Housed in polished steel scabbard with two loose rings. Etching to the blade remains very clean and clear. The hilt has been professionally re-gilded.
Victorian Rifle Volunteers Officer's Sword. An example of the Light Infantry pattern sword, the single edged blade with etched decoration of a strung bugle with title Rifle Volunteers. The hilt of the regulation pattern, incorporating to the open guard a strung bugle device. Housed in metal scabbard. Blade and etching remain in good clean condition, hilt and scabbard with dulling age wear.
Royal Devonshire Yeomanry Artillery Attributed Officer's 1912 Pattern Sword. This example is attributed to Major A.D. Stoddart TD. The blade is etched with a crowned GVR cypher, and details of the original owner "A.D. Stoddart R.D.Y.A.". The hilt is of the regulation pattern, the shagreen grip with twist wire binding. Housed in polished brown leather field service scabbard. Etching to blade clear, but the sword is with overall age wear, light surface rusting and pitting to the guard and wear to the scabbard. Major A.D. Stoddart served with the Regiment during WW2 and was awarded the Territorial Decoration in December 1947.
