Eileen Alice Soper (British, 1905-1990) The Giant Stride, 1921 Original etching, signed in pencil. 11 x 19cm Literature: Beetles/Wootton 19 Signed proof from the only published edition of 194 impressions, full, untrimmed sheet with deckle edges. In original blindstamped mount dated 1921 Eileen Alice Soper exhibited her first etchings at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1921, when only sixteen years old. Her work attracted considerable attention and she went on to make the subject of children at play, often with animals, the particular subject of her charming etchings. She later moved from treating children as her subject to making them her public, turning to illustrating children's books. She collaborated with Enid Blyton, illustrating some thirty-five of her books and went on to illustrate a further twenty-seven of her own works
D. William Tillyer (British, b.1938) Red Ginger (Alpinia Purpurata), Hawaii signed lower right "Tillyer" watercolour 150 x 75cm William Tillyer studied at the Slade School of Art from 1960-1962, painting with William Coldstream and etching with Anthony Gross, and later under William Hayter in Paris, where he won a scholarship. He taught at the Chelsea School of Art from 1963 to 1970. In the 1980s he travelled widely and had shows at Bernard Jacobson in 2000 and 2002. His work is in the Victoria and Albert Musuem, the Tate Gallery and the Museum of Modern Art in New York
