A collection of four Georgian English satirical caricatures, to include: 'Launching a Frigate', Thomas Rowlandson after Richard Newton, depicting a Portsmouth brothel with grotesque bawd sending out a handsome young prostitute; in the background a sailor is looking up at a woman leaning from the window; etching on laid paper with original hand-colouring, published by Thomas Tegg (no date); 'Bobbin about to the Fiddle - a Family Rehearsal of Quadrille Dancing, or Polishing for a trip to Margate', hand-coloured etching by Charles Williams, published by Thomas Tegg, 1817; 'A Clerical Manoeuvre or the Way to Finish a Charity Sermon', hand-coloured etching by Charles Williams, published by Thomas Tegg (no date); 'An Election Ball', hand-coloured etching by George Cruikshank, published by G. Luigi Rossini (Italian, 1790-1857), pair of large etchings depicting ancient Roman architecture: 'Veduta dello Scavo della Colonna di Foca' (1822), and 'Veduta di Fianco del Campidoglio di Roma' (1819). Together with a similar etching by Piranesi: 'Veduta degli avanzi del Foro Di Nerva'. Folio also contains several scientific drawings.Condition Report: Rossini etchings have some dampstaining and a little wear around edges; Piranesi is backed with paper and very worn/discoloured.
Italian school (19th century) - 'Porto di Como', Italian harbour scene with figures and boats by a quayside, gouache over a print base, possibly an etching, 6.25" x 8.75"; together with nine further examples, three which have been laid onto black painted paper and inscribed 'Anfitoutro Flavio il Colosreo' The Colosseum, 'Il Pantheon' and 'Tempio di Vesta', others depicting 'Lago Maggiore' and Italian Villas (slight variations in size) (10) *The "Porto di Como" example contained within an elaborately decorated gilt plaster gold leaf frame, with foliate scroll and flower ornamentation, contained within a velvet lined glazed case
