Light Infantry / Rifle Regiments Pattern Victorian Officer’s Sword. A good clean example the blade with etched decoration depicting a Crowned VR Cypher and strung bugle device. The hilt of regulation pattern with open guard and shagreen grip. Housed in steel scabbard. GC Etching and blade bright.
Victorian Period 1822 British Infantry Pattern Sword. A good clean example, the slightly curved blade with etched decoration of an entwined VR Crowned Cypher, also with the retailer’s details of Linmey London. The hilt of the regulation pattern, gilt brass open folding guard with VR cypher, enclosing a shagreen grip with twist wire binding. Housed in brass scabbard with two lose rings. Good clean condition etching clear.
Victorian Light Infantry / Rifle Regiments Pattern Officer’s Sword. A good example the blade with etched decoration depicting a Crowned reverse entwined crowned VR Cypher and strung bugle device. The hilt of regulation pattern with open guard and shagreen grip. Housed in polished brown field service scabbard. GC Etching faint.
Victorian Grenadier Guards Officer’s Sword by Wilkinson of London. A good regulation example by Henry Wilkinson (Serial No 29837, indicating manufacture in 1889), carried by Captain Gerard Lysley Derriman who served in the Boer War . Fine slightly-curved blade etched with regimental grenade and imperial crown above VR cypher reversed and intertwined. On one side, scrolls bearing eight battle-honours from Blenheim to Barrosa, the other side with honours from Peninsula to Egypt 1882 and owner’s initials ‘GLD’. The hilt with plated Gothic guard incorporating the grenade, and wire-bound shagreen grip. In its good plated scabbard. Etching to blade remains clear and bright, somewhat defective, particularly on inside of guard, otherwise GC. Gerard Lysley Derriman was educated at Eton and commissioned into the Grenadier Guards in November 1889. In the Boer War he was on the staff of the Imperial Yeomanry and then served in the S.A. Constabulary until 1904. Returning to the Grenadiers he was posted to France and whilst a Staff Captain met his death on 7th Aug. 1915 and was buried at le Trepart Military Cemetery.
Victorian 1895 Pattern Highland Regiment Officer’s Broadsword. A good example, the double edged straight blade with double fuller. Bearing etched decoration of a Crowned VR cypher and thistle decoration. The hilt is fitted with full basket, this with buff leather and scarlet cloth lining and also crimson tassels. Housed in correct pattern steel scabbard. GC etching to blade clear GC some age wear to the inside of the buff lining.
WW1 Period British Infantry Officer’s Sword. A good example of the regulation pattern. The blade with etched decoration incorporating a Crowned GVR cypher, which is repeated to the guard. The shagreen grip retains its wire binding. Complete with metal scabbard. Over GC etching slightly faint to blade.
