A FINE GERMAN MITTEN GAUNTLET FOR THE RIGHT HAND, CIRCA 1520, PROBABLY AUGSBURG, formed of a flared tubular cuff decorated over the ulna with a small almond-shaped boss, tubular metacarpal plate embossed in imitation of four lames on the outside, knuckle-plate with a transverse rib, two finger-plates and three thumb-plates, the lowest embossed with a matching almond-shaped boss at the base, the edge of the cuff decorated with two concentric roped bands framing an etched panel of scrolling foliage, and the remaining borders etched with dentil ornament (the etching worn, some small holes, releathered by William Robinson in 1959), 24.5 cm ¦¦Provenance¦Raymond Bartel, armourer to William Randolph Hearst¦A. These features, accompanied by similar etching in the manner of, or by, Daniel Hopfer, are seen on the armour of Kaspar von Frundsberg dated 1527 preserved in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna (inv. no. A377) and a part armour dated 1524 in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (acc. no. 29.150.3). Similar features can also be seen on another armour made for von Frundsberg around two years earlier, also in Vienna (inv. no. A Victorian 1827 Pattern Royal Irish Constabulary Sword, one side of the 84cm single edge steel blade faintly etched with the crowned VR cypher, the opposing side with a crowned garter inscribed ROYAL IRISH CONSTABULARY enclosing a harp, flanked by foliage, with maker's mark for Ireland & Son, Ellis Quay, Dublin, the steel gothic hilt pierced and engraved with a crowned harp, with wire bound fishskin grip, stepped pommel and chequered thumb rest, lacks scabbard, 98cm; a British No.5 Mk.I Submachine Gun (SMG) Knife Bayonet, the blade stamped P within a circle and 1946, with blackened steel scabbard and nylon webbing frog (2)1 - Etching on blade is very faint, tip is broken, pitting to hilt. Lacks scabbard.2 - Some wear to the blackening on the blade. Spring button is missing from the pommel.

An antique yellow gold mourning brooch. The brooch of curved rectangular form having an unfilled centre panel surrounded by etched foliate design surrounded by a further boarder of hatched etching to a C clasp verso. Unmarked, test indicate gold. Measures approx 2m. Total weight approx 3.7g.
An antique Scottish gold, citrine & antler brooch. The brooch having a thorned antler / horn specimen together with an oval cut fancy prill set citrine, all mounted in gold with scrolling floral etching throughout to a C clasp verso. Unmarked but surface tests as 9ct gold to mount & C clasp. Total weight approx 7.1g. Measures approx 5.5cm.
