Leslie Duxbury (1921-2001)/Lancashire Characters/six black crayon sketches, various sizes, 42cm x 29cm and smaller/unframed (6)Note: Artist, teacher and writer, Leslie Duxbury's early years were spent in Lancashire where he studied at Accrington School of Art. Initially his sketches and paintings focussed on scenes of working class life, capturing the characters of his childhood from care-worn miner's widows to farmers and pigeon fanciers in the style of the Kitchen Sink School whose more famous members included John Bratby and Derrick Greaves. Duxbury gained a place at the Royal College of Art and, after serving in the RAF, he settled in London with his wife and family. A holiday cottage in Dyfed, southwest Wales, provided the opportunity for endless walks and the source of inspiration for landscape painting. In later years, he concentrated his interest in etching and he created an impressive portfolio which come to the market directly from his estate.
