PERET BENJAMIN: (1899-1959) French Poet and Dadaist. Co-founder of the French Surrealist movement. An excellent A.L.S., `Benjamin Peret´, one page, 4to, Paris, 3rd of May 1936, to René Gaffe, in French. In his usual very small and clean writing, Peret apologizes for his late response and states in part `Regarding “Je ne mange pas de ce pain-la” (“I do not eat that kind of bread”), the largest part of the poems of this book were indeed published in the surrealist magazines and even translated into various languages, but there are 10 unedited related to political events of these last years. I forgot to say that the whole work contains 28 poems…´ further saying `In the list which you send to me is missing my last book “De Derriere les Fagots” edited by Corti. The large sheets (about Imperial Japan) included a Picasso etching “La Mort de Marat” (“Marat´s Death”)…Regarding “Grand Jeu” I only keep a single copy and it has become very difficult to find one now…´ Before concluding Peret adds `I have to move from my home in the very next future and I still don´t know where I´ll move to, therefore I will kindly ask you to write to me provisionally, addressing the letter to André Breton, 42 rue Fontaine..´ A good literary content letter.
