Eileen Cooper is an artist known for her strong and passionate commitment to figuration. Originally from the Peak District, Cooper has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally. Her work is held in many public and private collections including the Tate Gallery; the Arts Council Collection; the British Museum; Manchester Art Gallery; Mima, Middlesborough; New Hall Art Collection, University of Cambridge; the Royal Collection; Victoria & Albert Museum; Dallas Museum of Art, Texas; Kunsthalle, Nuremberg; Walpole Library, Yale University. Ernst Fries reiste 1823 über München und Venedig nach Rom, wo er sich niederlässt. 1824 entstehen verschiedene Modellstudien und Zeichnungen in der Campagna und von den Ruinen Roms. Das bis in Einzelheiten ungewöhnlich sorgfältig durchgeführte Blatt entstand in einer Gemeinschaftsarbeit von Ernst Fries mit Joseph Thürmer, die auf eine der Zeichnungen von Fries zurückgeht. Topographisch bedeutend sind nicht nur die bekannten antiken Monumente, sondern auch Details wie etwa ein exakt dargestelltes Häuserviertel am Rande des Forums, das heute nicht mehr existiert. In 1824 he made various model studies and drawings in the Campagna and of the ruins of Rome. The sheet, which is unusually meticulous in every detail, was created in a joint effort between Ernst Fries and Joseph Thürmer, based on one of Fries' drawings. Topographically significant are not only the known ancient monuments, but also details such as a precisely depicted quarter of houses on the edge of the Forum, which no longer exists today.
