Early 19th century Eglish glass goblet, engraved with a sailing vessel - CERES - the shield-shaped cartouche later engraved by another hand 'G & M Austen, Gravesend, 1853', enclosed by bunches of grapes, knopped stem, 16cm.Condition report:No chips or evident areas of polishing. There is a slight unevenness to the foot where the glass has cooled with a slight ridge in one area. The boat name and dedication is clearly by another hand, or perhaps just the difference in the techniques of wheel-engraving to etching of the lettering.
