MORTIMER MENPES (BRITISH, 1855-1938)Portrait of a young debutanteOil on canvas (unlined)Signed with initials MM24½ x 16½ inches (62 x 42 cm.)Enclosed in a gilt frameMortimer Luddington Menpes was born in South Australia. The family moved to England in 1875 and Menpes commenced his art training at The School of Art in London in 1878. He was a pupil of James McNeill Whistler (1834-1903) who taught him etching. He visited Japan in 1887 and was greatly influenced by Japanese art and design. He decorated his house in Chelsea in the Japanese taste. Menpes worked in South Africa during The Boer War. He also travelled to Burma, Egypt, France, Italy and Spain. He was a Member of The Royal Society of Painter-Etchers, The Royal Society of British Artists and The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours. Examples of his works can be found at The Tate Gallery, London; The Hunterian Gallery; University of Glasgow; and The Sheffield Art Gallery.
Alfred George Wright (British, 1875-1967), etching of two men in a lobster boat off the Jersey coast, signed and dated 1934 in pencil, 6 7/8 x 9¾in. (17.5 x 24.75cm.), unframed; together with another by the same artist, 'The Cider Press', 6 7/8 x 9 7/8in. (17.5 x 25cm.); and one other unframed etching, unsigned. (3)
Edmund Blampied, RE (Jersey, 1886-1966), 'The Forge', drypoint etching, c.1937, signed to plate only, inscribed 'The Forge' verso in pencil, 4 x 6¾in. (10 x 17.25cm.). , * This etching appears to be a very close 'mirror' image of the lithograph 'The Forge' executed in 1937, Appleby No. L.32, although smaller in scale.

Kriegsmarine Officers Dress Dagger with Hanging Straps, good example of a German naval officers dagger with its original white celluloid grip, retaining the original grip wire. Eagle and swastika pommel top. Complete with its original deluxe pattern hammered scabbard with two hanging rings. Blade with standard etching and WKC trade mark to the base. Some surface pitting to the blade. Dagger is complete with its correct large and small type blue velvet backed hanging straps with gilt metal double lion head buckles and gilt metal clips. Some wear to the straps but overall a good example.

Somewhat flattened and scrubbed.
