'Irish dwarf'.- Gravelot (Hubert François, 1699-1773), After. Owen Farrel the Irish Dwarf, engraved portrait with etching by James Hulett, sheet 380 x 228mm., trimmed to just within platemark, very short split to upper margin, some spotting or light staining, lightly browned, little chipping, tipped-in to card at corners and middle, James Hulett, 'Publish'd May ye 27th 1742.'. *** Rare. Farrel was born in County Cavan in 1716. After being in service to a Colonel in Dublin he toured with a show, and then arrived in London, where he begged. Before his death he sold his body to the surgeon Mr. Omerod, who upon the former's death prepared his skeleton, which found its way into the museum of the Duke of Richmond. We note that the Wellcome and Yale copies of the print are similarly trimmed.

Gillray, James. 1805 Uncorking Old Sherry. Published March 10th 1805 by H. Humphrey St. James Street London. An early 19th century hand-coloured satirical etching on wove paper. Some age-toning, hand colouring remaining bright, orig. margins intact. Depicting William Pitt uncorking a bottle containing Richard Brinsley Sheridan, with his 'stale jokes' and 'stolen jests' bursting forth. Mounted, framed & glazed.Measures approx. 36.8cm x 26.6cm, 53cm x 41cm to include frame.
