Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948) - Salt March (12th March 1930 to 6th April 1930) - a unique hand made garland necklace, as presented to Gandhi on the first day of the famous Salt March, 12th March 1930. The garland being made from card backed pink fabric, with applied gold and silver thread, with tinsel ends. Large central heart shaped medallion, united to smaller decorative panels by gold coloured string. The central heart shaped pendant measuring 17cm tall. Supplied with a unique unpublished photograph of Gandhi being presented with the garland. To the reverse of the photograph is written 'Gandhiji - Nandubeu Kanuga - On The Day Of Dandi March At Bungalon - 12th March 1930 .' A unique and important piece of history. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (2 October 1869 – 30 January 1948) was an Indian lawyer, anti-colonial nationalist and political ethicist who employed nonviolent resistance to lead the successful campaign for India's independence from British Rule, and in turn inspire movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. Gandhi's birthday, 2 October, is commemorated in India as Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday, and worldwide as the International Day of Nonviolence. Gandhi is commonly, though not formally, considered the Father of the Nation in India, and was commonly called Bapu (Father). The Salt March, also known as the Salt Satyagraha, Dandi March and the Dandi Satyagraha, was an act of nonviolent civil disobedience in colonial India led by Mahatma Gandhi. The twenty-four day march lasted from 12th March 1930 to 6th April 1930 as a direct action campaign of tax resistance and nonviolent protest against the British salt monopoly. Another reason for this march was that the Civil Disobedience Movement needed a strong inauguration that would inspire more people to follow Gandhi's example. Gandhi started this march with 78 of his trusted volunteers. The march spanned 239 miles, from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi, which was called Navsari at that time (now in the state of Gujarat). Growing numbers of Indians joined them along the way. When Gandhi broke the British Raj salt laws at 8:30 am on 6 April 1930, it sparked large scale acts of civil disobedience against the salt laws by millions of Indians Provenance - from the collection of Dr Balvantrai N. Kanuga, Gandhi's personal long-term physician and friend.

1908 Renault Model VI 20/30 Landaulette Transmission: manualMileage:Founded by Louis Renault and his brothers Marcel and Fernand in 1898, the company that would become France's biggest automobile manufacturer started humbly enough, with a solitary 1¾hp De Dion-engined prototype, the sprung rear axle of which would soon be copied by many contemporaries. Production at the Billancourt factory was soon under way on a large scale, demand for its products being enhanced by the performance of Renault cars in the great inter-city races so popular in France at the turn of the 19th Century. From the outset Renault engineering was of the highest quality and the arrival of multi-cylinder models really put the company on the map. By 1904 Renault was building its own engines: large-capacity fours at first, followed by the AX twin that later developed into the AG, famous for its WWI role as the 'Taxi de la Marne'. Messrs Renault and Frères exhibited five different models at Olympia in 1905, ranging from the twin-cylinder 8/12hp AX to the four-cylinder 35/45hp model. The 14/20hp was powered by a conventional, four-cylinder side valve engine of a little over three litres capacity, and featured the traditional Renault 'coal-scuttle' bonnet, rear-mounted radiator, semi-elliptic suspension, rear-wheel brakes, cone clutch and a three-speed gearbox. This model was still in the range in 1909 as the 'BX', although the days of its 'paired cylinders' engine were numbered, and by this time was being built with a four-speed gearbox. This 20/30 VB model is a very well-presented example indeed. Fitted with its original body, which was built by Stareys & Woolleys of Nottingham, the Renault looks superb and has a wonderful patina throughout. Included in the sale is a sizeable history file containing invoices going back to the 1960's. The leather at the rear is believed to be original as is the majority of the vehicle with stamps on the body dated early 1900's. In very good running condition the Renault comes from a private collection and is ready to be used immediately.

2004 Mercedes-Benz 230 SLK Transmission: automaticMileage:51991At the start of the 1990s, after the introduction of their two-seat, grand-tourer R129 SL and the Mazda MX-5, Mercedes-Benz set out to create a new compact roadster, slotted below the SL. By late 1991, under Bruno Sacco, the first design sketches were drawn, with scale models being built in the first half of 1992. Massively successful in its first year, worldwide sales hit 55,000, over double the entire nine-year production of 190 SLs, and between 1996 and 2004 over 311,000 SLKs were sold. The roof design consists of a folding steel hardtop with both halves linked by a mechanism which is locked securely when the roof is closed. At the touch of a button on the centre console, a hydraulic system controls the fully automatic folding process in which the boot lid is also integrated.Originally registered on 31st March 2004, this Mercedes-Benz is finished in black with a black interior. The condition of this handsome German beauty is a testament to its previous owner. The options specified on the original invoice include leather trim and automatic transmission. The impressive power roof works faultlessly, and she is fitted with a CD player. With an engine that starts on the button, this Mercedes-Benz is described as driving with no known faults. Supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate valid until 24th August 2022 and various bills and receipts, this striking SLK 230 Kompressor is offered for sale without reserve.

Taxidermy: A Cased Late Victorian Passenger Pigeon (†Ectopistes migratorius), a full mount adult male with head turning slightly to the right, perched upon a centrally mounted branch, amidst a natural setting of ferns, grasses and moss, above pebble covered groundwork, set against a watercolour painted evening sky back drop, enclosed within a typical period ebonised three-glass display case, 38.5cm by 14.5cm by 44cm, originally supplied in person to James Harrison by George Bristow, Taxidermist and Gunmaker, 15 Silchester Road, St Leonards-On-Sea, January 10th 1938, George Bristow was accused of selling foreign birds as British, taking advantage of wealthy collectors by charging excessively (see Nicholson & Ferguson-Lees, 1962; Morris 2021). James Harrison (1968, eg page 93) disputed this, offering evidence that Bristow did not maximise his opportunities. His son Jeffery, in an unpublished memoir in the Harrison Archives, supports his father's contention by making the following comment; "it is relevant....to detail the sum paid by my father in 1938 for another almost equally well-known extinct bird, namely a fine mounted example of a male Passenger Pigeon, for which he paid precisely £3!", This information may have been anecdotal father-to-son comment, but almost certainly backed by the data from family bank statements or cheque stubs. Photo copy of original correspondence between George Bristow and James Harrison included, attached hand written catalogue label to verso of case.Passenger pigeons were hunted by Native Americans, but hunting intensified after the arrival of Europeans, particularly in the 19th century. Pigeon meat was commercialized as cheap food, resulting in hunting on a massive scale for many decades. There were several other factors contributing to the decline and subsequent extinction of the species, including shrinking of the large breeding populations necessary for preservation of the species and widespread deforestation, which destroyed its habitat. A slow decline between about 1800 and 1870 was followed by a rapid decline between 1870 and 1890. The last confirmed wild bird is thought to have been shot in 1901. The last captive birds were divided in three groups around the turn of the 20th century, some of which were photographed alive. Martha, thought to be the last passenger pigeon, died on September 1, 1914, at the Cincinnati Zoo. The eradication of the species is a notable example of anthropogenic extinction.
