Not only was the whole town illuminated and the populace treated to wine from specially erected fountains, as well as bread, gold coins and commemorative medals, but the court witnessed and took part in an extraordinary spectacle" (Watanabe Triumphall shews, p.90). Bissari wrote the libretti and Johann Kasper Kerll composed the music. Francesco Santurini was responsable for the stage design. The celebration began on September 24 with the opera Fedra incoronata and continued with the tournament games Antiopa giustificata on September 26. Ferdinand Maria played the roll of Soloonte. PRINTS -- OSSENBECK, Jan. Set of 4 engravings and one sheet of engraved explanatory text by Gerard Bouttats after Ossenbeck of the procession of Emperor Leopold I and his court, to receive his bride, Empress Maria Theresia, December 1666. Each approx. 215 to 230mm tall x 660 to 740mm in length, the text leaf 240 x 190mm. (The third with 2 small patches in upper margin, remnants of old glueing along folds on verso, a few small repairs.) When Emperor LEOPOLD I was married to MARIA THERESA in 1666, a plan was conceived to undertake spectacles for her reception on a scale which had never been seen at a German court. The four large horizontal engravingsd depict Emperor Leopold I, preceded by heralds, and followed by members of his court, all on horseback, 123 in number. These comprised the opldest and most distiguished aristocrats at the imperial court, such as Counts Waldstein, Coloreto, Fürstenberg, von Altheim, Trautohn, Harrach, Dietrichstein, Herberstein, Kevenhiller, Mansfeldt, von Windischgraz and others. The engraved legend describes in detail the costumes of silk, gold borders and brocades, worn by the principal figures. Gregor, Weltgeschichte des Theaters, p.400ff. Hollstein 77-80; Nagler IV:71, 2. [And:] COLLIGNON, François, engraver. Set of 8 etchings that accompanied the score of Stefano Landi's opera San Alessio, libretto by Giulio Rospigliosi. Rome, 1634. Each approx. 184 x 270mm, mounted. Cloth folding case. The 1634 production of Landi's San Alessio was presented in honor of Prince Alexander Charles of Poland as part of Carneval organized by Cardinal Francesco and Cardinal Antonio in Rome. On this occasion the score was printed, enhanced by Collignon's illustrations that testify to the splendor of the performances. The name of the designer in 1634 is not known, though some have attibuted it to Bernini. The 1634 version has some changes from previous: added scenes, new characters, and new effects like the flight of Religion, which "passes through the air above a wagon surrounded by clouds."
