Con numerose illustrazioni xilografiche nel testo, marca xilografica al frontespizio, capilettera incisi su legno. Alle pagine 55 e 59 nuove figure sono state incollate dal tipografo su quelle stampate per errore. Fioriture marginali e aloni diffusi, più forti all'inizio e alla fine del volume. Pagina 59 danneggiata, ma integra. Legatura in cartonato moderno. Seconda edizione assai rara di questo trattato, dopo la prima uscita nel 1583, nella quale il celebre matematico e astronomo perugino Egnazio Danti presenta lo strumento ideato da Latino Orsini. Il trattato si apre con la descrizione dello strumento, "composto di un'asta centrale sulla quale si muovono quattro aste snodate a forma di parallelogramma e munite di visori. Sulle aste sono tracciate varie scale di misura, come quella dei gradi, il quadrato delle ombre, la divisione in braccia, la rosa dei venti, gli angoli di poligoni regolari inscritti nel cerchio, e i diametri delle palle d'artiglieria. Nel manico è inserita una bussola. Una volta chiuso, lo strumento veniva riposto in un fodero, assumendo le sembianze di un pugnale." (c.f.r. Museo Galileo, Firenze). A seguire, il Danti ne svela l'utilizzo che spazia da quello più propriamente astronomico, come il calcolo dell'altezza del sole dei pianeti e delle stelle fisse, all'impiego dell'attrezzo nella navigazione o in artiglieria, col calcolo della gittata dei proiettili. "Edizione rarissima... al pregio letterario scientifico che esse (le opere, n.d.r.) presentano, come appartenenti ad uno dei più distinti matematici del XVI secolo, s'aggiunga l'importanza bibliografica di opere in massima parte stampate con molta accuratezza da benemeriti tipografi" (Riccardi I, 393).

A Very Rare and Unusual Quadrant Shaped Mahogany Barometer, signed John Hargraves & Thomas Tatham, dated 1830, renewed 1851 & 1862, the slender trunk with a good figured case and a quadrant form central glazed section containing the half-circular with the ranging scale reading from 28 inches to 31 inches, dial signed and dated, concealed mercury tube with a single brass recording hand adjusted with a knob in the centre of the trunk, 102cm high see illustration An almost identical barometer by Thomas Hargraves of Settle sold recently; he was possibly a relation of John Hargraves of Settle. Unfortunately, John is not recorded in the barometer makers' book but they must have been working around the same time in Settle and producing very unusual barometers possibly in the same workplace. The almost identical example by Thomas Hargraves sold at Bonhams, 12th December 2012, lot 69. Banfield (Edwin) Barometer Makers and Retailers 1660-1900, pg.103 records that Thomas Hargraves produced very unusual barometers which had slender rectangular cases and a quadrant or fan-shaped painted and glazed dial on one side of the case. The dial pointer was operated by a pivot mechanism. 24.02.17, The main trunk door of the barometer is bowed and springing when closed, trunk door is slightly faded in colour, quadrant part of the case with some replaced veneers, top pediment wooden block is later, some minor chips to edges in parts, some circular scuff marks from the side latches, painted card dial with small staining marks and the painted surfaces are slightly faded, mercury tube with air bubbles, barometer has not been tested for its working condition.
