"At Gruff, we enjoy and utilise a wide range of design and representational techniques, including physical modelling, traditional draftsmanship and computer generated imagery. 'A Kennel for Otto’ is a playful and functional design, exploring digital fabrication techniques at a dog scale. The open-top kennel, designed and fabricated by Gruff using our in-house CNC machine and 3d printer, comprises a natural cork bed, sat on a valchromat base and enclosed by oak dowels. An array of smooth and shallow bumps have been milled into the cork bed to provide a surface that gently massages the dog. Cut out recesses within the cork allow for brightly coloured, bespoke 3D printed water and food bowls to be inserted and removed. Four corner oak dowels, continue down past the base. Feet, 3D printed in flexible resin, have been attached to the bottom of these dowels to ensure the kennel sits softly on any floor surface. Comprised of many parts, ‘A Kennel for Otto' can be dismantled and elements can be replaced or changed allowing for possible customisation at later points in the dogs life"
