A LOUIS XVI BRONZE DORÉ AND MARBLE CLOCK GARNITURECirca 1880, Le Faucheur, H. ger DU ROY signed on faceThe gilt bronze torch and quiver tied to a laurel wreath with a bow and trailing ribbons is supported by an alabaster clock body with an enameled clock face with domed cover featuring both Roman and Arabic numerals. The rear large mechanism cover conceals the clock plate that is stamped “417” and engraved “3731” and “7/9/81”. The clock is supported by fluted columns and flanked with cast cornucopia-form gilt bronze mounts and a stepped plinth featuring foliate mounts and raised on gadrooned feet. A pair of nine-light gilt bronze candelabras each with a bouquet of roses held aloft by a pair of finely cast gilt bronze maidens. Each candlecup is a rose and part of the bouquet. All raised on stepped alabaster plinths in scale with the clock.Condition: lacks key. Includes pendulum. A COMPANION PAIR OF QUEEN ANNE STYLE DUTCH MAHOGANY MARQUETRY CHAIRS18th CenturyOne arm chair and one side chair, each constructed of mahogany with a double scroll back flanking a shaped splat inlaid with a flowering urn supported by inlaid scrolls of acanthus on the front and back of the chair. The unusual flaring oval section arms are inlaid with scale pattern and attach to a serpenting rail with slip seat. All raised on inlaid cabriole legs terminating in delicate ball and claw feet. Mortise and tenon, and doweled construction.Condition: Repair to back joinery and arm attachments. A fine exhibition quality model of a 5 inch gauge Great Western Railways Castle Class 4-6-0 Locomotive and Tender. No 4082 ‘Windsor Castle’. Built by John Adams of Poole, the copper boiler having fittings including scale water gauge, three scale cab gauges, lever operated sliding firebox doors, safety, blower, lubricator, brake, clack and blowdown valves.Chassis details include twin outside cylinders with valves controlled through Walschaerts valve gear and twin inside cylinders, cab controlled draincocks and pipework, lubricator, hand and steam brake gear, injector and whistle. Further detail includes fluted connecting rods, fine riveting, steps, hand and lamp irons. The tender is fitted with hand operated brake gear to axles, hand feed pump and pick up. The model finished in Great Western green and black lined livery with polished brightwork and commemorative plate on the cab side which exists on the original. Length 72ins Cab Width 9ins
The finest exhibition quality 7 1/4 inch gauge model of the Sir William Stanier London Midland and Scottish Railway ‘Pacific’ 4-6-2 LMS Locomotive and Tender No 6230 ‘Duchess of Buccleuch’, an accurate replication of the original engine in every detail and was built according to the drawings of Crewe and took ten years and over 18,000 hours to build the model, it was built by the famous model engineer Mr Harry Powell of Crewe and his brother Norman,the paintwork and lettering by Louis Raper. This magnificent model is fitted with a fully brazed and riveted superheated copper boiler with Belpaire firebox and all normal fittings including safety valves, regulator, blower, whistle, brake, injector and blowdown valves, incorporating full external detailing and smoke deflectors. Fine scale cab fittings include wheel reverse gear, lever operated sliding firedoors, draincocks and ejector levers, three pressure gauges, twin water sight gauges, mahogany planked floor with steel panel and scale checker-plate, a wealth of classic fittings. Chassis with twin outside cylinders fitted with Walschaerts valve gear and two inside cylinders, scale twin ratchet lubricators, brass lubrication boxes, draincocks, sanding gear, working steam brakes, leaf springs and beautifully finished wheels, fluted motion, exceptional external detailing, smoke deflector plates,these were later fitted to all of the class. Tender details includes 4000 gallon Type II plaque, handbrake, water pick-up control, steam-driven mechanical coal pusher with cylinder guides and lifting eyes. The model finished in LMS maroon with yellow and black lining. Length 113ins Cab Width 13 1/2ins. The Stanier ‘Duchess Class’ designated 7P operated throughout Great Britain and were ostensibly Princess Cornation Class Locomotives which were nicknamed “Duchesses” and many of both of the combined classes carried streamlining in the pre-and-immediately post-war period. They hauled the heaviest express trains from Euston through to Scotland including ‘The Royal Scot’ and earlier ‘Coronation’ services. One of the class was sent to the USA for the World Fair of 1939 in its streamlined form. All the class were withdrawn in 1965 and three remain in preservation. * Sir William Stanier FRS. Chief Mechanical Engineer of the LMS at the company Crewe works. * Harry Powell worked all his life at Crewe locomotive works, he was a Master Coppersmith and chief of the copper-shop at Crewe. This locomotive was delivered to Jack Salem in Switzerland by Harry Powell and Louis Raper. On arrival Harry Powell is said to have remarked to Jack Salem “Well you wanted the finest piece that has ever been built and here it is”.
