VANDERMAELEN, Philippe Marie Guillaume (1795-1869). 5 large-scale colonial maps of Texas.   [Brussels]: H. Ode, April & June, 1825.  Comprising: Amer. Sep. Parties des Etats-Unis et du Nouveau Mexique. No. 48. Showing parts of Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico.Amer. Sep. Partie du Mexique. No. 54. Borderlands including parts of New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Sonora, and Chihuahua.Amer. Sep. Partie des Etats-Unis. No. 55. Including southwest Oklahoma, and naming the panhandle "Grand Desert."Amer. Sep. Partie du Mexique. No. 59. Including part of the Rio Grand and Big Bend, as well as Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, Zacatecas, Durango, and Sinaloa.Amer. Sep. Partie du Mexique. No. 60. Showing the Texas coast. THE ONLY PRINTED MAP FROM THE COLONIAL PERIOD DEVOTED SPECIFICALLY TO THE TEXAS COAST.   Together, 5 lithographed maps with hand-coloring in outline, on wove paper, each 534 x 715 mm. (A few tiny marginal holes or short tears, reinforced verso along centerfold, some occasional very minor browning or staining, No. 48 with some overall pale spotting.) Provenance: Acquired Dorothy Sloan (11 December 2009, Sale 22, lot 369).   The maps appeared in Vandermaelen's Atlas Universel de Geographie, and comprise the first large-scale map of Texas printed at the time.   According to Streeter: "The five only partly related sheets comprising the Texas region, though on a large scale, are difficult to assemble for a study of Texas as a whole, even when available as separates and not bound in an atlas. The entire Texas coast line, fortunately, happens to be shown on a single sheet (No. 60). It is apparent that for this, Maelen had not consulted either the Carta esferica que comprehende las costas del Seno Mexicano, Madrid, 1799 (entry No. 1029), or its main features as outlined in Humboldt 's Carte Generale"¦Nouvelle Espagne, Paris, 1809 (entry No. 1042), for he shows it as a jumble of islands dotting the coast from Galveston Bay (here called Baie Trinidad) to the mouth of the Rio Grande. The Canadian River running across the Texas Panhandle is correctly shown as flowing into the Arkansas, and a "ËœLittle Brazos ' running into the Brazos is shown and named. The San Antonio is still incorrectly represented as flowing into the Gulf of Mexico, instead of joining the Guadalupe many miles above. The few place names are poorly done, some apparently imaginary." Streeter 1095 (listing all five maps).  Property from the Collection of Dr. Brant MittlerFor condition inquiries please contact lesliewinter@hindmanauctions.com

In the year 1999, nuclear waste stored on the Moon exploded, propelling it into deep space and stranding the 311 inhabitants of Moonbase Alpha. Eagles were the primary spacecraft on Moonbase Alpha, used for exploration, transportation and combat. This transporter appeared in 45 of Space: 1999's 48 episodes, making it the most screen-used model of the series, and it screen-matches the Eagle seen in series finale "The Dorcons", through its markings and details on the bottom of the footpads. It was also used in nine of the 11 crash-landing sequences, meaning it had to be repeatedly rebuilt and repaired. In recent years it has been lovingly and carefully restored by master model maker David Sisson.Husband-and-wife team Gerry and Sylvia Anderson created the live-action show Space: 1999, having previously collaborated on their "Supermarionation" puppet-based shows, including Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons and Joe 90. For Space: 1999, they drew visual inspiration from Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. Special effects designer and Academy Award®-winner Brian Johnson, who had worked on 2001, designed the Eagle Transporters. They were built in four sizes: 44", 22", 11" and 5" in length. Although two other 44" models were eventually built, this is the original 44" model used primarily for medium and close-up photography - such as take-off, landing and crashing shots - and appeared prominently in the show's opening credits. The model is made largely of resin and wood, with a brass frame, moveable metal feet and propulsion engines on its underside. The passenger pod is hand-painted in varying shades of grey, giving the impression of different panels. It has four doors, one on each side, which do not open. Small transfers, featuring serial numbers and the Moonbase Alpha insignia, give added detail and realism. The model's various sections are detachable, including the feet, main frame, pod, and cockpit, which reveals two model pilots when removed. Sisson repaired the brass frame holding the Eagle together, stripping it down and resoldering it. He also stripped down paintwork which had been applied subsequent to production, revealing original detailing, before carefully applying new paintwork in some areas. The model is accompanied by a storage crate and a letter of authenticity from Sisson, explaining the model's remarkable history and extensive use on the production. Dimensions: 112 cm x 45 cm x 20 cm (44" x 17¾" x 7¾") Special shipping required; see special shipping notice in the Buyer's Guide. Estimate: £80,000 - 120,000 MClients without purchase history may need to meet additional registration requirements in order to bid on this lot; please inquire for details.
