Large, convex oval enamel sign `Vice Consulado Del Uruguay`. A quite magnificent sign with a large, colourful coat of arms in the centre consisting of an oval which is divided into four equal sections and crowned by a rising golden sun, the "Sun of May", symbolizing the rising of the Uruguayan nation. The oval is surrounded by two a laurel branch on the left and a olive one on the right, representing honour and peace, joined at the bottom by a blue ribbon. In the upper left quarter there is a scale, symbol of equality and justice, set on a blue background. The upper right quarter contains the Cerro de Montevideo (Montevideo Hill) with its fortress on the summit, which represents strength, on a silver background. In the lower left, also on a silver background, there is a galloping horse, symbolizing liberty. The lower right quarter holds an ox on a blue background, which is a symbol of abundance. This coat of arms was first adopted by law on the 19th March 1829. Measures 32½" x 25¾" and is in excellent condition with only very minor edge chipping that just impinges on the small makers name at the bottom, but, it can be seen that it was manufactured in Montevideo.
