*GAM-87 Skybolt. A wooden model of this famous missile, mounted on a metal stand with enamelled Douglas badge and engraved 'RAF Skybolt' plaque, together with a 1/24th scale Shorts Vertical Take Off Research Aircraft, of composite construction with mesh canopy and overall silver, four jet engines to the under carriage, mounted on a base with panels of information, 32cm nose to tail x 28cm wingspan (some damage) The Douglas GAM-87 Skybolt was an air-launched ballistic missile, equipped with a thermonuclear warhead. Developed in America during the late 1950s, the UK joined the program in the 1960s, intending to use it on their V bomber force. A series of test failures and development of submarine-launched ballistic missiles led to its cancellation in 1962. (2)
*Pioneer Aviation. A historic scale model of the Santos-Dumont No.14-bis, the wooden frame with cloth canvas, brass two blade propeller and fittings, 85cm wingspan x 67cm nose to tail Built and first flown by the Brazilian aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont in 1906. Originally designed to be tested dangling beneath the gas bag of airship No14, hence the name No.14-bis. The aircraft made a total of nine take offs and remained in the air for just over 21 seconds.
