Ephemera –Butterflies fine collection of approx 48 preserved butterflies each contained in an individual envelope. Together with two typed documents dated 1949 one a letter from a branch of the Salvation Army based in French Guyana relating to the capture of butterflies for commercial purposes and the second a scale of prices. These butterflies appear to be exotic species captured in the tropics

Hobson, Survey Office, Khartoum, November 1911, printed in black ink on white silk, a little spotted and a few brown marks, small red stain near scale, (1:1000000), 77 x 58cm, folded, believed to have been Powell-Cotton’s own map and together with two offprints by Major Powell-Cotton, Notes on A Journey Through East Africa and Northern Uganda/A Journey Through Northern Uganda, plus an Offprint on Giraffes by R. Lydekker with a folding printed sketch map of Powell-Cotton’s route in Britsh East Africa and Uganda 1902-3 at rear, all three signed and dated 8/10/04 by Powell Cotton, the first two in orig. printed wrappers, the last broken and disbound, all somewhat soiled and the latter slightly dampstained, slim 8vo. The Powell-Cotton Museum at Quex Park near Margate in Kent. It was established in 1896 by Major Powell-Cotton to house natural history specimens and cultural objects collected on expeditions to Asia and Africa. (4)

A military tailor’s notebook with samples, c. 1890-1915, handwritten notebook, approx. 110 pp., containing detailed notes for regimental uniforms, court dress, etc., with numerous mounted cloth samples, handwritten index at front, some soiling and occ. marks, contemp. half plum morocco, rubbed and somewhat worn, small 4to, together with an album of scale drawings for military tailoring in outline produced by W. Christian, Royal Artillery, for the Royal Army Clothing Factory, with signed examination certificate bound in at rear, dated 18th March 1895, contemp. half leather, rubbed and marked, oblong folio, plus two folio volumes entitled to covers Uniform Miscellanea, containing typewritten and handwritten historical notes on military uniforms including original letters, including badges, shoulder straps, photographs, some original drawings, tracings, etc., compiled by Captain D. C. Anderson, and presented to the Royal United Service Institution, c. 1920s-30s, contemp. blue cloth, rubbed and some surface soiling, folio (4)
