A Chinese Wanli style Blue and White Jar, Qing dynasty of broad ovoid form with a short slightly convex neck, the body decorated with a continuous scene of birds amidst pine trees and bamboo with an irregular scrolling type design at the top perhaps intended to depict mountains, the shoulder with panels of birds and flowers on a fish scale ground, the neck with small floral sprays of plantain leaves, the base unglazed and countersunk. The style of decoration and the blue follow the well known designs of the Wan Li period (1573-1619) but the shape of the piece and the paste and finish of the footrim suggest a circa date of a later period, perhaps towards the end of the eighteenth century."
