A Pair of Second World War German 7X50 Gas Mask Binoculars by Carl Zeiss, Jena, numbered 2240601 for 1943 and with maker's code blc, the right lenses with calibrated diopter scale, both eyepieces with rubber eye cups, original Benutzer bakelite lens cover, with black 'Rauhlack' finish to the grips and leather neck strap, in black leather cloth case stamped rln and Wehrmacht eagle, the interior with four pockets set with three filters. Optics are good. Rubber eye cups are a little perished. Wear to the extremities of the paint. Case with one filter missing. Lacks strap

(13 3/4 x 20 3/4 in), occasional finger-soiling, surface dirt and minor browning, original cloth, tooled in gilt and blind, rubbing and worn, folio, 1895.
British Isles.- Blaeu (Willem Jansz.) Magnae Britanniae et Hiberniae Tabula, inset with a map of the Orkney Islands in the upper right corner, decorated with a compass rose, decorative scale of miles, title cartouche, three galleons and sea monster, engraving with hand-colouring, platemark 395 x 495 mm. (15 1/2 x 19 1/2 in), sheet 490 x 580 mm. (19 1/4 x 22 3/4 in), Latin text verso, central vertical fold pressed and some splitting expertly repaired, surface dirt, unframed, [circa 1640].
England & Wales.- Blaeu (Willem Jansz.) Anglia Regnum, decorated with four ships, a scale of miles flanked by sheep and a cherub, and two coats of arms of Great Britain and England surmounting the title cartouche, engraving with outline hand-colouring, 400 x 510 mm. (15 3/4 x 20 in), under glass recto and verso, verso glass with split, Dutch text verso of map, central vertical fold with repair verso, small tear centre left, handling and printers' creases, some spotting and surface dirt, framed, [circa 1635].

Head of a Putto, circa 1600-1650, large-scale study or cartoon in black chalk, white chalk and brown wash on laid paper, the head cut out along the outline, and reset, with portions filled in at a later date, laid down on later laid paper with ruled outer border in brown ink, sheet size of the drawing 34 x 28 cm (13.4 x 11 ins) (Qty: 1)NOTESProvenance: Collection of John Rowlands (1931-2016), former Keeper of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum. * Andriessen ( Anthonie , 1746-1813). Group of four ladies conversing beside an open window, with two children and a dog, pen, black ink and grey wash on laid paper, inscribed to verso, single rule framing border in black ink, 132 x 98 mm (5.25 x 3.9 ins), tipped onto later thick backing paper, window-mounted (Qty: 1)NOTESProvenance: Private Collection, Herefordshire, UK. Anthonie Andriessen and his brother Jurriaan Andriessen (1742–1819) both taught at the Amsterdam Teekenacademie (Drawing Academy), where their pupils included Wouter Johannes van Troostwijk, Hendrik Voogd and Jean Grandjean. Small scale figure studies seemingly drawn from life, such as the present work, dating from around the end of the 18th century, with their relaxed charm and storytelling quality are considered amongst this artist's most attractive work. A similar drawing by Andriessen of a woman and young boy standing at an open window appeared at auction in 2008 : Sotheby;s London, Old Master Drawings, July 9, 2008, lot 44.
