A steel hydrostatic coin scale, with brass pan, the turned beam with swans neck ends, supported upon a square shaft, screw fixing into the cut from solid mahogany case and with two apertures with sliding brass covers housing six square sovereign and guinea weights and five grain weights, beam 11.7cm CONDITION REPORT: It may not be obvious that this is a hydrostatic coin scale due to the number of replaced parts. The cords and pans are replaced adn the original water weights are missing.

A well engineered 1 inch scale freelance model of a steam table engine, built by Mr D. Russell of Fraserburgh and based on a WallerÂ’s table engine, the single cylinder approximately 7/8 inch bore by 1 3/4 inch stoke, with open crank having brass cup oilers and set on angular supports, eccentric driven steam valve, the single cylinder lagged in planked hardwood with metal banding, steam control valve, spoked flywheel 22cm diameter, small spoked belt drive wheel, finished in black paintwork with steel brightwork, mounted on hardwood plinth measuring 14cm x 14cm, overall 39cm high. Note: The first table engine is credited to Henry Maudslay in 1805, the type was built by many manufacturers during the nineteenth century. This example is a later one from the 1880s. Details came from a book published in the 1880s, the author was a director of George Waller and Co.

Russell of Fraserburgh, the single cylinder with outside steam valve operated from rod linked to eccentric on the open crank, having brass oilers, rope drive to speed governor (not connected to the steam inlet supply), WattÂ’s parallel action, spoked flywheel 9cm diameter, finished in maroon paintwork, mounted on simulated brickwork base with hardwood plinth measuring 20cm x 6cm, overall 15cm high.

Boiler History: Southern Federation of Model Engineering Societies test certificate No.12982 dated 14th August 2005. Westlands & Yeovil District MES boiler test expired 13th August 2007. Chapman of Bideford, with single cylinder and two road speeds, the engine has a spirit fired copper boiler with fittings including water gauge, pressure gauge and safety valve, engine detail include cylinder approximately 3/4 inch bore by 1 1/4 inch stroke, polished copper pipework, lubricators, crosshead trunk guide, Stephenson’s link reverse, two road speeds and solid flywheel, Pickering type governor, chassis details include spoked and straked wheels with solid rubber road tyres, worm and roller chain steering, belly water tanks with ‘VC’ monogram, cable drum with fairleads, handbrake, generator, chimney extension, fitted canopy supported on polished brass olivers, with fascia board sign written ‘V C Chapman’s, Golden Dragons’, with fitted road lamps, finished in red, white and black paintwork; together with a transportation case. Boiler History: Original boiler test certificate Fareham Engineering & Steam Co. dated April 1982. Working pressure 50 psi. Test pressure 100 psi. Boiler serial number 641-ARI SH. No current boiler test.

Boiler History: None available. Awards: A very highly commended certificate of merit at the 51st Model Engineering Exhibition, Wembley 1982 (copy of certificate available for inspection).

A well engineered 3 inch scale model of a single cylinder Aveling and Porter showman’s engine ‘Sir Michael’, built and supplied by Maxitrak of Kent, the copper boiler with fittings including sight glass, pressure gauge, regulator, safety valve, blower, clack and blow-down valve, engine details include single cylinder with trunk guide, cylinder drain cock, two road speeds, open crank with Stephenson’s link reverse, solid flywheel, crank driven water feed pump, ratchet oiler, clack, by-pass, whistle, ash pan, belly water tanks, worm and chain steering, brakes to rear wheels, winding drum with fairlead, dynamo and canopy supported on polished brass spiral olivers, finished in maroon and black lined paintwork, 127cm long, 39cm wide, 77cm high; complete with a Maxitrak four-wheel driving wagon with rubber road tyres. Boiler History: Original boiler test certificate. Issued by Maxitrak Ltd., 4 Larkstore Park, Lodge Road, Staplehurst, Kent, TN12 0QY. Certificate No.0244. Working pressure 150 psi. Working pressure 100 psi. Dated November 1996. Copy Issued 11th April 1997. No other boiler documentation.

An exhibition quality model of a 3 1/2 inch gauge WWI 2-6-2 side tank locomotive, No.1227, built to 1 3/4 inch to the foot scale based on the American Loco Company two foot gauge 1917 design for service in World War I working in France behind the trenches by The Royal Engineers, built by Mr Sayer of Sussex between 2004 and 2009 and based on the ‘Mountaineer’ design by Don Young, with silver soldered copper round top boiler, fittings including water sight glass, ratchet lever operated regulator, pressure gauge, safety valves, direction control lever, cab control drain cocks to cylinders, hand feed pump, steam brakes and hand brake to all driving wheels, clack and blow-down valves, chassis details including twin outside cylinders 1 1/2 inch by 2 1/4 inch stroke with Walschaert’s valve gear to slide valves, planked flooring to cab and cab operated whistle, injector and ratchet type mechanical oiler system, fitted with steps, handrails and lamp irons in World War I livery having cab sides plates ‘American Loco Corporation 57110 1917’, 102cm long, the cab 30cm wide. Boiler History: Boiler supplied by Western Steam Boilers of Bridgwater, Somerset, purchased on 5th July 2004. Model completed in 2009. Hydraulic test pressure 170 psi. Working pressure 85 psi. Southern Federation of Model Engineering Societies Hydraulic test certificate No.SF113394. Expired on 23rd January 2013. Along with other history and steam test certificates. Note: A great deal of research was carried out in the building of this historic and unique model, including information supplied by the Imperial War Museum, Royal Engineers Museum, The Royal Logistic Corps Museum and The National Railway Museum.

A well engineered 2 1/2 inch scale model of the 4-6-2 tender locomotive ‘Princess Royal’, with copper boiler and fittings including single sight glass, pressure gauge, safety, blower, clack and blow-down valves, chassis details include twin outside cylinders with Walschaert’s valve gear, fluted motion, mechanical lubricator, feed pump and bypass, hand irons, six-wheel tender with hand feed pump, steps and hand irons, unpainted, 109cm long, the cab 13cm wide; together with a spare part-built tender. Boiler History: None available. Note: The London, Midland & Scottish ‘Princess Royal’ Class were express passenger locomotives designed by William Stanier. They were originally used to haul the famous ‘Royal Scot’ train between London Euston and Glasgow Central. Thirteen of these locomotives were built at Crewe Works between 1933 and 1935. Followed by a second batch of eleven with two remaining in preservation.

A fine exhibition 1/32 scale model of the live steam tug ‘Englishman’, scratch built from the builder’s drawings by the award winning builder Mr C. Putt of Guildford, this well detailed model comes with a gas fired copper Scotch type boiler of dry-back design by K.N. Harris, having fittings including pressure gauge, feedwater preheater, burner and gas regulator, associated pipework, two servers, aluminium funnel, exhaust tail pipe and safety valve tail pipe, powered by a live steam driven Stuart Turner D10 vertical twin simple engine to the design by Malcolm Beak, with reversing valve gear, boiler feed pump, displacement lubricator, boiler pressure modulated gas regulator, the hull of traditional ‘plate on frame’ construction with sycamore veneer overlays, the rudder, stern frame, stem plate and keel of 3/8 inch by 1/16 inch brass strip, other fittings include, funnel, ship’s boats, masts and yards, anchor, chain, propeller and propeller shaft, flags, rigging blocks, lifebelts and a full radio control system, 167cm long, 36cm wide, 85cm high; together with documented history and build records. Boiler History: Southern Federation of Model Engineering Societies boiler test records. Boiler ID number MB.03.09. Test pressure 120 psi. Working pressure 60 psi. Certificate of hydraulic test No.SF 104185. Examination certificate of a pressure test No.C 160672, issued and signed by Guildford M.E.S. and dated 22nd May 2014. Hydraulic test valid until 15th May 2017. Steam test valid until 21st May 2015. Working pressure 60psi. Note: Ocean rescue steam tug ‘Englishman’ was owned and operated by United Towing Co. Limited, Hull between 1947 and 1962.
