A souvenir hunters collection, some rather dubiously acquired by John Rolls, fragments include "Piece of the Bed in which Prince Charles Edward slept in at the Earl of Northamptonshire residence", "Hair of the Princess Charlotte", "Hair of Lord Byron's Newfoundland dog Cymon", "piece of the banner of Jeanne (Laisné) Hachette who defended the walls of Beauvais' against Charles the Bold 1472", "Piece of Prince Charles Polwarth tartan jacket (the jacket in which he made his escape to France and in which he was presented to Louis XIV which is in the possession of Lindsay Carnegie", whose ancestor was secretary to the Ches'r St George); "Grass from the Grave of Flora Macdonald" brought by Miss Howard from Kilmuir Isle of Skye and given to Gladys E. Clune; a "piece of the lining of the cradle of Henry V preserved at Troy House Monmouth stolen by me John Rolls 3rd May 1838", "piece of the shield of Henry V taken from the one preserved at Troy House Monmouth 3rd May 1838", stolen by me John Rolls 3rd May 1838" Note: Troy House is a Welsh historic house, on a ducal scale. The original house belonged to Blanche Herbert, Lady Troy, of the Herbert family of Raglan Castle, who owned great estates in South Wales. -
