With fine polychrome figural paintings in landscape and green gold-rimmed scale pattern, 1 coffee pot (h. approx. 20 cm, heavily damaged and glued), 1 coffee cup/saucer (damaged ), 1 cream jug on 3 feet in branch form, 1 sugar bowl (heavily damaged and glued) and 1 curved tray (l. approx. 42, unmarked), only the coffee pot has a clearly recognizable sword mark, the other parts partly with ground out inscription. James Bond Skyfall (2012) - A prop door handle from the Skyfall Lodge. The twist effect handle with central bracket made from rubber to imitate iron. In the Film, the Skyfall House was perceived to be situated in Glencoe, however the House was actually purpose-built from scratch at Hankley Common in Surrey, whilst interior shots were filmed on a soundstage at Pinewood Studios. The full scale set was constructed from plywood & plaster which was destroyed in the Films explosive finale. Set in a framed display (18x11.5x2 inches) with a corresponding still. Provenance: Obtained from one of the Films Prop Masters. Accompanies a five page Location Prep & Map from Pinewood Studios dated 23rd January 2012, choreographing the Skyfall Lodge scenes.
A SUPERB AND RARE SMALL GOLD-LACQUER SHODANA (DISPLAY CABINET) WITH STAND Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912)The shodana (display cabinet) supported on the original gold-lacquer stand with four curved feet and neatly decorated in gold hiramaki-e and takamaki-e with several minogame (thousand-year-tortoises) amongst meandering streams and rocks. The silver and shakudo fitted cabinet comprising two pairs of hinged cupboard doors, one single corner door, one set of sliding doors, staggered shelves and three drawers, decorated in gold takamaki-e, kirigane and e-nashji with floral and mountainous landscape, as well as different birds, the top, sides, and reverse scattered with aoi-mons, the cupboard doors bordered with hanabishi (flowery-diamond) motifs.This shodana is ideal for presenting miniature artworks such as netsuke. HEIGHT (with stand) 37.5 cm, LENGTH (with stand) 31.5 cmCondition: Very good condition with only minimal wear to lacquered decoration and edges.Provenance: British private collection. Auction comparison:Shodana of this scale are exceedingly rare. Christian Richter (Swedish 1678-1732) Portrait miniature, watercolour on vellum Head and shoulder portrait of Carey (née Fraser) Countess of Peterborough (1655-1709) Within gilt frame with scrolled crest, bearing Burlington Fine Arts Club exhibition label verso Oval 8.5cm x 7cm Provenance Charles Lees Collection: the miniature is accompanied by the original receipt of purchase by Lees for the sum of £20, dated April 9th 1883, from Ernest Renton Jeweller Art Designer and Collector of Curios, 1B Pall Mall Place, London. Charles Edward Lees was a successful British industrialist who curated his collection of paintings and miniatures during the latter half of the nineteenth century. Lees acquired examples by many notable artists with the assistance of known art dealers William and George Agnew. One hundred portrait miniatures from his collection were sold at Bonhams forming The Charles E Lees collection sale in November 1997. Portrait Miniatures The Property of a Lady, Bonhams, April 2005, Lot 9 - by Peter Cross Carey Countess of Peterborough was an English courtier, and maid of honour to Queen Catherine from 1674 to 1680. Carey was one of the 'Hampton Court Beauties' painted by leading portrait painter Sir Godfrey Kneller depicting eight of the most fashionable and glamourous ladies of the court of William III. During the early part of his career Christian Richter is believed to have studied under leading Swedish portrait miniaturist Elias Brenner, later working in Berlin and Dresden where he gained a strong following. Upon arrival in London in 1704 Richter began by copying full scale portraits of other popular artists including Michael Dahl and Godfrey Kneller. The antiquary and engraver George Vertue said of Richter's work: 'his Manner of Painting very tender and Curious, his tincts had a great variety his pencil regular and neat, his lines of drawing very just & toucht with freedom'.Condition Report:Good overall condition. Light signs of wear commensurate with age to frame.
