Concorde An Original Concorde Development Mock-up An important and historic full-scale wooden mock-up that once stood in the assembly hall at Filton, where Concorde was built. This development model was transported direct from BAC, Filton, Bristol. This model was important in deciding the final layout of the flightdeck. Input from the airline pilots and the Concorde test crews was crucial to the safe operation of the aircraft. The design philosophy of keeping flight deck procedures as near as possible to those used in a conventional aircraft had a major bearing on the flight deck layout, the complimentary comments received from airline pilots during the flight-testing phase proved that the designers’ aims had been met.Mock-ups of cabin layouts were of particular importance to the sales team, enabling them to show prospective customers the interior layout of the passenger cabin furnishingsThe "Concorde Experience" a full scale display and promotional model of the front fuselage section of the aircraft, internally fitted with the flight deck and forward passenger cabin seat rows. The manufacturers had this model built to help familiarise potential purchasers with the layout, instrumentation and capabilities of this revolutionary aircraft. The display includes the aircrew models in period style uniforms and a display of Concorde products and utility items used on the aircraft.A bulkhead has been added concealing a sixth row of seats at the rear of the display.Access stairs to front portside doorway included with the lot, additional stairway leading to the War Gallery included if required, together with an additional stairway original to the display fuselage.23 meters approx overall length. The exhibit is in good overall condition the nose cone is fibreglass, internally within cabin and cockpit it appears complete, externally much of the fuselage which is timber skinned is hidden behind structures such as built in display cases, certainly at the rear of the fuselage on the planes right side the outer skin is not present but the internal structure is complete where visible. On the underside where viewable the fuselage is supported on a lifting cradle, the cradle is not complete with some cross members cut out within a storage area under the exhibit , these timber frames may need to be reinstated before the fuselage can be moved, the whole cradle sits on block pillars , these may require removal. The instruments in the cockpit are mock-ups with some original switches. Flambards will ensure there is access for an articulated flatbed lorry to enable the removal of the Concorde exhibit from its present position by the end of June 2025.

Simon-Bernard Lenoir (French, 1729-1798) Portrait of Voltaire (François-Marie Arouet, 1694-1778), circa 1764inscribed verso 'Le Noir:pinxit'oil on canvas44 x 35cmProvenance:Within the present vendor's family for at least 90 yearsThis engaging, re-discovered portrait represents an important addition to the contemporary iconography of the renowned French Enlightenment writer François-Marie Arouet, known by his nom de plume Voltaire. Simon-Bernard Lenoir exhibited a pastel portrait of Voltaire at the Salon de l'Académie de Saint Luc, Paris, in 1764, believed to have been commissioned by Voltaire's friend, the actor Lekain (now in the Princeton University Art Museum, No. 2019-5). Although compositionally close to the pastel, the present oil on canvas, slightly smaller in scale, differs notably in the colour and style of Voltaire's jacket as well as the inclusion of delicate details, such the sitter's wig powder falling upon his shoulder, which give this painting a more immediate and lifelike feel and suggest it was made from first hand observation.Although primarily known as a pastelist, Lenoir also executed portraits in oil and is known to have repeated compositions in both mediums. The soft palette, sensitive handling (indicative of an artist familiar with pastel), closeness in style to known paintings by Lenoir and the inscription to the reverse of the relined canvas - likely replicating the artist's signature to the original canvas - all support a conclusive attribution of the present work to Lenoir's brush. The year 1764, also the presumed date of this portrait, was a significant one for Voltaire as it saw the publication of the Dictionnaire Philosophique, one of his best known philosophical works.

Attributed to Mather Brown (American, 1761-1831) An Officer of the Berkshire Regiment of Fencible Cavalry, or Windsor Foresters, circa 1794-1800 oil on canvas220 x 120cmProvenance:Traditionally said to have been acquired in Parma, Italy, according to the previous owner, His sale, Cheffins, Cambridge, 4th March 2015, Lot 596, where acquired by the present ownerThe sitter in the present portrait was an officer of The Berkshire Regiment of Fencible Cavalry, otherwise known as the "Windsor Foresters" as identified by the title scroll on his helmet. The Fencibles were raised 1st May 1794 for service within Britain and consisted of six troops under the command of Colonel Charles Rooke. They were primarily defensive units usually based within garrisons or on patrol and spent majority of their time in Scotland, where their main role was to be a front line of defence against French invasion from the Bonaparte regime. They were disbanded circa 1799-1800 and their uniform was by permission of King George III taken over by the Wargrave Rangers. Most of the regiment were volunteers, often landowners or nobility. There were approximately twenty officers in the Fencibles as of June 1797, which is around the time this picture was painted. However, their lack of recorded iconography makes the identification of the sitter a difficult task.Nevertheless, stylistically this magnificent military swagger portrait can be attributed to the American-born portrait painter Mather Brown and represents a significant addition to his known oeuvre. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Mather Brown was to become a prominent portrait and historical painter who made his career in England. The handling, scale and composition are closely comparable with Brown's full-length portraits of Frederick Augustus (1763–1827), Duke of York (Waddesden Manor) and Sir John Eamer (1750–1823), Lord Mayor of London (Guildhall Art Gallery). We are grateful to Christopher Bryant for identifying the regiment of the sitter.241.5 x 142cm framed
