Jorgen Valentin Sonne u. Frederik Christian Lund. Thorvaldsens Museum. Den udvendige billedrkke. Efter J. Sonne's Kartons, gjenoptegnede af F. C. Lund. Fotolitograferet ved Generalstaben, 1889. Lithographische Wiedergabe in 50 Segmenten auf 18 Blättern des Frieses von Jorgen Valentin Sonne an den Außenwänden des Kopenhagener Thorvaldsen Museums nach Tuschzeichnungen von Frederik Christian Lund.(Kopenhagen), Selskabet for Historie, Litteratur og Kunst (Generalstabens Topografiske Afdeling), 1890. Quer-Gr.-2° (80 x 32 cm). 20 Bll. (Leeres Deckbl., 1 Titelbl., 18 Bll. m. 50 Segm.). Lithographic reproduction in 50 segments on 18 sheets of the frieze by Jorgen Valentin Sonne on the outer walls of the Thorvaldsen Museum in Copenhagen after ink drawings by Frederik Christian Lund. - Of great rarity, currently no other copy for us in international trade. - Copy of the special edition of this large-format and true-to-scale series of lithographs of Sonne's monumental frieze along the outer walls of the Thorvaldsen Museum. - The colourful frieze was created in the second half of the 1840s by the Danish artist Jorgen Valentin Sonne on the occasion of the homecoming in 1838, after decades of absence in Rome, of his compatriot, the classicist sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen. It depicts the ceremonial reception of Thorvaldsen by local dignitaries, art-loving citizens and the cheering people all around, as well as the unloading of Thorvaldsen's sculptures and his art collection and the transfer of them to a museum built in his honour in 1848, which was decorated by the same frieze. Sonne noted the names of many of the people depicted on the frieze, thus creating a gallery of some of the museum's donors and at the same time a monument to the self-confidence of the educated middle classes. - The lithographs of the frieze are based on accurate ink drawings by Lund. The special edition presented here was reserved for members of the Society for History, Literature and Art founded in 1876. A regular edition in folio format was published at the same time. - Segments 22 and 28 trimmed to the size of the print, some of the leaves with expertly restored missing parts and tears without loss of image, former horizontal fold smoothed.
