Dress Uniforms & Peaked Cap of Captain H C Richmond 1st Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment who was Killed in Action 25th January 1915, consisting of four pocket blue patrol tunic with brass regimental tunic buttons and rank pips to the shoulders, Queens South Africa medal ribbon above breast pocket. Black cloth lining to the interior. Brass buttons and rank pips have been heavily polished. Accompanied by matching trousers with red central piping. Scarlet mess jacket with brass buttons. Officers dress cap with its ribbed white top cover, oak leaf embroidered central band with bullion regimental cap badge to the front and small bullion Sphinx to the reverse. Leather sweatband with gilt leaf Hawkes & Co tailors details and inked H.C.R. Cap is housed in the original japanned metal storage tin named to H C RICHMOND ESQ GLOUCESTER REGIMENT. Set is accompanied by his officers sword dress scabbard, two crimson sashes, sword bag and riding spurs. Set is all housed in the original japanned storage tin with painted “H C RICHMOND 1ST GLOUCESTER REGT”. Sadly the tunics do suffer with moth damage but the cap remains in excellent condition. Captain Harold Christopher Richmond was born in1880 and was educated at Balliol College, Oxford. He gained a commissioned as Lieutenant in the Gloucestershire regiment and served with the 1st Battalion during the Boer War in South Africa. He was awarded the Queens South Africa medal with four clasps. During the Great War he served with the Regiment in France. Regimental records detail “In the early hours of 25.1.1915 the 3rd Brigade was warned to expect a large-scale German attack on Cuinchy and Givenchy. Both ÒAÓ and ÒDÓ Company were in the line when the attack began. At 07.35 hours Capt W K George and Capt H C Richmond of ÒDÓ Company were killed”. It is believed that Richmond was killed by a Sniper. Harold Christopher Richmond is commemorated in the Guards Cemetery, Windy Corner, Cuinchy, France.

All at approximately 38ozs, 30.5cm across CONDITION REPORT General overall condition very good. Some minor surface scratching and denting commensurate with age and use. Decoration very slightly worn. This wooden model measures 575mm and is finished in the original light blue livery of the RNLI. Fitted with rowlocks, seats, detachable masts, rope to sides, brown canvas sails, plus oars, rudder and other accessories. The hull decorated with the insignia of the National Lifeboat Institution within red and gold oval, with ‘The Ashtonian’ above. GC some sympathetic restoration is required. Plate 5

An impressive scratch-built WWI Royal Navy Super Dreadnought warship. HMS ‘Orion’, the Royal Navy’s fifth ship of the line at Jutland, the flagship of Rear Admiral Arthur Levenson, Commander of the Second Battle Squadron. The model is of plywood construction and built to a scale of 1:96. The hull is grey above and red below the water line. The vessel is equipped with 3 twin gun turrets for’ard and 2 aft. It has 2 lifeboats, a steam launch, searchlights and flies embroidered flags from the rigging. HMS ‘Orion’ is controlled by a Planet radio controlled system, employing 4 channels. One channel each for steering, speed, searchlights and turret rotation. Powered by two 12 volt geared MFA motors. Two 6v rechargeable gel cells provide up to 4 hours running time. Length:183cm (72"), beam 28cm (11") and a draught of 9cm (3.5"). GC, minor repairs required. Complete with carrying cradle.
