Patch of incongruous paint work - water damage? to immediate right of signature (see image). Small, thin pencil mark to top right hand corner within the sky approx 0.5cm long. Small white paint splashes/spots in the tree lines above and to the right of the cottage.

General light time staining, most evident to the top of the sheet within the sky. Colour depth remains good. Significant creasing to each corner, particularly the top left and the top right corners, and also a crease to centre of sheet, all with associated substantial paint losses. Areas of significant abrasion to the sky around the creasing, and abrasions around the entire outer edge of the sheet to black border. Multiple pin holes in each corner and one in the centre of the lower edge, with the largest being in the top left hand and right hand side corners. Some general surface dirt to sheet. Small patch of tiny, dark spots to sky to the left of the furthest tower. Incongruous brown water mark? within area of the road in front of the farthest figure group. The odd sporadic small-scale foxing spot.

The odd foxing spot. An incongruous white paint splash? to sky"Castel San Angelo, Palliacashigia": Some time stainging to sheet. A vertical line of light staining just in from the left hand edge running the height of the sheet, and mount marks around the entire sheet. Sporadic patches of light foxing spots, particularly to the tops of the nearest hill range above the cottage, with one notable dark spot to the left of this. Some general surface dirt in evidence. Crease to sheet in bottom right hand corner approx. 5cm long, and another in the left hand corner of a shorter length. Tear to sheet in a half-moon shape running downwards, approx. 1.5cm in length, from the left hand edge in the lower half of the sheet. Cornelius Varley: Some quite heavy time staining to sheet and appears to be possibly down in colour, although executed in a muted colour palette. The odd pale, sporadic foxing spot. Some general small spots of surface dirt. Monochrome drawing in the style of James Howe: Some light time staining. Some sporadic patches of staining, to include within the front hoof of the animal. Larger, more pronounced stain/foxing spot approx. 2cm from right hand edge. Some general small-scale surface dirt. Folding crease across the whole width of the sheet, half way down. A further crease running horizontally through the animal's back legs below its hocks, and a diagonal lighter crease running vertically on the diagonal from the horse's muzzle.

Taylor wove paper, each sheet approx. 420 x 545 mm (16 1/2 x 21 1/2 in), neatly tipped onto album leaves, some tears, nicks and surface dirt, some spotting and browning, one inscribed in pencil 'John Murray', all unframed, [mid 19th century] (5) Provenance: Probably John Murray III (1808-1892) *** An unusual example of large-scale botanical studies by a Chinese artist showing the influence of Indian art produced by the "Company School" group of artists working for British patrons; a hybrid of Indo-Chinese influences. Comparative examples of Straits School botanical watercolours were sold from the Carlton Rochell Collection of Company School Paintings (see Sotheby's, An Indian Garden..., 27 October 2021, lots 27, 28, and 29).
London.- Horwood (Richard) Plan of the Cities of London and Westminster the Borough of Southwark and Parts adjoining Shewing every House, large bound wall map of London, composite collection from the first and second editions, 23 sheets only (of 32, lacking sheets A4, B2-B3, C2, D2, E3-E4, F3-F4, G3-G4, H3-H4), presented on a scale of twenty-five inches to the mile, extending from Angel to Limehouse, and Kennington to Brompton, engravings on various cream wove papers, some with watermarks 'Horwood's Map of London', each individual sheets approx. 560 x 650 mm (22 x 25 1/2 in), or smaller with some sheets trimmed, some on stubs, some loose, scattered surface dirt, occasional nicks to extremities, later half calf, covers detached, lacking spine, manuscript inscription to upper cover, very worn, elephant folio, [cf. Howgego 200], [c.1792-1807]*** The largest map printed in Georgian Britain, and a defining study of London at the end of the eighteenth century. Horwood's plan was the first map of London to attempt to show every individual property, and took over 7 years to complete following numerous logistical and financial obstacles.

Frank Brangwyn (Welsh, 1857-1956) "Buccaneers", a dynamic seascape study of a small, cramped vessel full of downcast seamen, beyond a coastal Mediterranean village overlooking the shore, period lithograph, in ebonized frame under glass, 68 cm x 60 cm overall [Brangwyn was a painter, illustrator and designer. At 17, one of his paintings was accepted into the Royal Academy's summer exhibition. He worked alongside Diego Rivera producing large-scale murals for places such as the Rockefeller Plazza and the Royal Exchange.]
