Escort-based RS1600i superbly prepared by Lavant Garage for Group 1 and presented in iconic Royal Mail 'Datapost' livery. Followers of saloon car racing in the mid-1980s will certainly remember the distinctively presented 'Group A' Datapost RS1600i Escorts prepared by Richard Longman Racing for himself and Alan Curnow. Whether it was the fact that the staid old Post Office had decided to go racing, or the fact that the cars were very competitive, or simply that they were painted Post Office Red and looked great is not clear, but they are well remembered and have been the subject of diecast scale models from half a dozen different companies. The Datapost-liveried Escort on offer here is not one of those early Richard Longman cars but was built to a high standard in the early 2000s from a rust-free shell to RS1600i specification and raced successfully in CTCRC with numerous class wins. It subsequently spent ten years in a heated garage before our vendors instructed classic Ford Escort RS1600i specialists, Lavant Garage in Chichester, to recondition the car and fully prepare it to return to the circuits. All the safety equipment is up to date including a new fire extinguisher with 16 years of life and all correct nozzles and mountings. Most importantly, the list of components renewed or serviced on this RS is exhaustive (full details in the history file) The CVH engine features Accralite forged high-compression pistons, ARP big end bolts, Kent race cam (solid lifters), Vernier cam sprocket, Bosch K Jetronic PI, DTA management, an Ashley 4-1 tubular exhaust manifold, Mocal oil-cooler and Direnza alloy radiator, all of which contribute to a willing and respectable 145bhp. The Quaife 5-speed gearbox is straight-cut with a Motorsport LSD and ZF Sachs paddle-clutch. Much of the drive train and brakes (AP) are new as is most of the fuel system with a high pressure fuel pump, injectors and 25-litre foam-filled tank. All the bearings are new with ZX1 Super Grease and the car is fitted with a race wiring loom and the essential heated screen. This beautifully-presented 1980s 'homologation special' with its period correct livery could be a very cost effective way into some lovely championships, including the HRDC Gerry Marshall Trophy and CTCRC 'Group 1' and is a very rewarding car to drive, after all it has 'Group A' underpinnings. It's been prepared by the best and should represent cost effective and reliable racing for the coming seasons.Specification Make: FORD Model: RS 1600I Year: 1983 Chassis Number: TBA Registration Number: N/A Transmission: Manual Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Make: RHD Interior Colour: RaceClick here for more details and images
Designed by the award-winning British architect and designer, Nigel Coates and celebrating the Ferrari 166 MM, this substantial table offers a unique opportunity to own and enjoy a rare presentation of parts and memorabilia relating to this special car that brought Enzo Ferrari his first victory. The 166 Mille Miglia (‘MM’)Touring Barchetta was the car that, in 1949, delivered Ferrari an extraordinary year that truly put Enzo Ferrari’s young company on the map and he commented many years later 'I don’t remember anything more worthy than that first victory'. Designed and built by Ferrari using the legendary 2-litre Gioacchino Colombo V12, cradled in Aurelio Lampredi's inspired tubular chassis and clothed by Carrozzeria Touring, the car was launched at the Turin Motor Show in September 1948. Between 1948 and 1953, just 47 examples of the 166 MM were constructed and sold. In April 1949, two Ferrari 166 MM Barchettas scored a breathtaking 1-2 in the Mille Miglia and then at the Le Mans 24 Hours, Luigi Chinetti put in a world class performance to win this legendary race, Ferrari’s first victory at Le Sarthe. Within weeks, Chinetti was in the lead yet again, winning the Spa 24 Hours in the 166 MM. Three world-class victories from Enzo Ferrari’s still-new sports car firm announced the Prancing Horse had truly arrived. Scuderia Ferrari was in the ascendancy and it was the 166 MM that had propelled it to the top. This table and its associated 166 MM-related automobilia are undoubtedly unique, a word often misused but not in this case. Its current owner previously had it on display in his office for a number of years but it has recently come from dry storage. The upper glass tier is 2,400mm long x 950mm wide with each bevelled and toughened glass pane being approximately 15mm thick. It's complemented by four Charles Eames-style chairs, a set of four Ferrari coffee mugs and coasters and a selection of period ‘Souvenir’ official Ferrari playing cards together with several specialist journals, including Cavallino and Ferrari Owners Club GB magazine articles which feature the fabulous Ferrari 166 MM.On the lower glass tier is a full display set of 12 numbered pistons for the Ferrari 166 V12 manufactured by JE Pistons of Ohio and complete with all ring sets (authenticated). There is an original 1949 Italian sales brochure for the car, a very rare copy of the 1949 special race edition of the L’Eclaireur regional newspaper detailing all the 24 Heures du Mans race entrants, two beautiful 1:18th scale models of the car, a rare copy of L’Idee Ferrari in English featuring the colour sketches for the 166 MM together with a Jeroboam (four bottles) of 1949 Moet et Chandon Champagne.Click here for more details and images
LIONS: A very rare large pair of Staffordshire Pottery Figurines, modelled as Lions & Lambs, circa 1850, each seated with large manes over a recumbent lamb, painted in colours and on gilt lined base, 26cm & 25cm high. It is likely these are based upon the animals of Isaac Van Amburgh who made ‘the lion lay down with the lamb’ in his enormously popular show. This is a very nicely modelled and painted pair. Refer: Harding Book 2, Page 258, Figs 3013/3014 One of the lambs has a chip/loss to its leg. Both have some firing cracks with one having a crack down the spine, to the front of base and the back of the head of the lamb. Condition report Both lions are in generally good overall condition There is a small black mark on the lower leg of the left hand figure, this is tiny and raised. It may prove to be dirt, but I did not want to attempt to remove it in case it removed paint. It should also be noted that one lamb is better defined and while these have been catalogued as a pair it is not possible to be certain they were sold originally together. Usually these might be termed matched, but in this instance I am not certain, they may have always been together, just one is a more effective moulding. Certainly the decoration is very closely matched, particularly in the faces and general coloration. In any event they look wonderful together. There is another similar example in this auction, the other piece is half the scale.
A quantity of Lima Big Big scale plastic locomotives and accessories together with a quantity of 00 gauge lineside buildings and a quantity of Hornby and Scalextric cataloguesBoth Hymek diesels are in tired condition; one with wheels and axle missing, couplings present but heavily worn, no motors fitted.
