Economics.- Petty (Sir William) Another Essay in Political Arithmetick, concerning the Growth of the City of London, first edition, occasional light browning, the odd spot, 20th century cloth, upper cover lettered in gilt, [Goldsmiths' 2515; Wing P1915], small 8vo,H.H. for M. Pardoe, 1683.⁂ Sir William Petty (1623-82) was the first person to carry out a statistical survey on a large scale when he made the Down Survey in Ireland on behalf of the Commonwealth. The implication of the title is that a previous work on political arithmetic had already been published. In fact, this essay was the first to be printed: Keynes points out that the 1686 reprint explains that 'an extract of a Letter' was incorrectly thought to have been another essay. This is thus Petty's first work on political arithmetic and his calculations and ingenious deductions set the tone for his later statistical analysis. Another Essay is a landmark in the history of statistical analysis, leading towards Babbage's Analytical Engine.

Omega, Seamaster, ref. 176.007, a stainless steel wrist watch, circa 1975, automatic chronograph movement, 22 jewels, cal. 1040, blue dial, luminous square markers, white luminous pointed baton hands, centre chronograph seconds and minute recording hands, Arabic numeral 5 minute track, tachymeter scale, subsidiary dials for 24 hours and 12 hour recording, date aperture at 3 o'clock, screw down case back, on a unsigned blue leather strap with a stainless steel pin buckle, case back, dial, movement and crown signed, width 38mm Despite the Lunar Achievements of the Speedmaster, Omega’s first automatic chronograph was, in fact a Seamaster - the reference 176.001 in 1971. This was quickly replaced in 1972 by the 176.007 adding a tachymeter bezel and which became a firm favourite in the line until 1976. The movement is the calibre 1040, based on a Lemaina 1340 which still lives on today, in modified form in Breguet’s Type XXI.
Omega, Speedmaster Ed White, ref. ST 105.003, a stainless steel wrist watch, circa 1967, manual wind chronograph movement, cal. 321, black dial, luminous baton markers, white luminous pointed baton hands, centre chronograph hand, subsidiary dials for constant seconds, 30 minute and 12 hour recording, black bezel with tachymeter scale, screw down case back, on a Hodinkee brown suede strap with an Omega stainless steel pin buckle, case back, dial, movement, crown and buckle signed, accompanied by an Omega extract of the archives dated 4th November 2009, diameter 40mm Included in the lot is a framed copy of a telex sent from NASA to the headquarters of Omega USA, which was then distributed throughout Omega’s international offices. Particularly poignant in this anniversary year, the telex discusses the functioning of Buzz Aldrin’s Omega Speedmaster on the Moon’s surface. The story goes that rumours had started suggesting Aldrin’s watch had not worked during the EVA. This would have tarnished Omega’s most historic publicity opportunity and so Omega asked for a statement from NASA confirming that the watch performed correctly. This is the answer from NASA giving that confirmation. The ref. ST 105.003 was first produced in 1963 for a short run until 1966. However, Omega kept delivering this model to authorised dealers until 1967. This would explain the production date stated on the extract presented with this example. The 105.003 was the last of the Speedmasters to be produced without Professional on the dial, with straight lugs and crown guards. It was also the first to have baton hands. In 1965, Ed White wore a 105.003 Speedmaster during his first E.V.A. (Extra vehicular activity) on the Gemini IV mission, which was also the first for N.A.S.A. Hence the 105.003 being given the nickname 'Ed White' among collectors.
