Engineers. Leeds. A fine exhibition standard 2 inch scale model of a Shand Mason horse drawn fire engine, built from Edgar T Westbury drawings and Reeves castings, the model with vertical copper and brass boiler having ‘J’ tubes, normal steam fittings, twin cylinder live steam engine with cylinder head lubricators, scotch cranks, eccentric driven feed pump with stop cocks, twin spoked flywheels and twin direct coupled water pumps with changeover lever, water tanks, suction and delivery hose. Chassis and body details include spoked wooden wheels with metal rims, and brass hubs, turning lock, coal bunker, driver’s seat with brass rail to back, box body with foot rest, brake gear, two branches with lamp brackets and lamps. An extremely fine and historically important 9½ inch gauge model of the LNWR Precursor Class 4-4-0 locomotive and tender No 1941 'Alfred the Great', built by H.C. Powell in Crewe locomotive Works 1955 for the late V. Hewitt with copper fire-tube boiler with scale back head fittings including water gauge, twin injector, whistle, blower, steam brake, safety, clack and blowdown valves. Footplate details include adjustable opening fire door, lockable reversing lever, glazed windows, damper and other control levers and other details. Chassis details include twin outside cylinders with inside joy valve gear, detailed big ends and fluted coupling rods, cab-controlled cylinder drains, displacement and mechanical lubricators, oil boxes and pipe work to all bearings, two injectors, whistles, riveting and fine pipework, steam operated brake gear, working sanding gear, steps, hand and lamp irons and much other fine detailing. The silver soldered copper boiler with fine scale cab and fittings including steam pressure gauge, water sight-glass with drain cock, regulator, vacuum control, wheel reverse control, lever operated firebox doors and detailed copper pipework with brass fittings. The chassis detail including twin outside cylinders and twin inside cylinders with Stephenson’s valve gear, fluted motion, drain cocks, lubricator, whistle and other usual fittings. The six-wheel tender with fitted hand feed pump, brakes, water cocks and detailed rivet-work, steps, hand irons, tool boxes, vacuum hose and couplings.The model finished in traditional green Great Western Railway lined livery with polished bright-work, name and cab side plates, fitted steps, handrails, lamp irons and vacuum hoses. A limited edition HO gauge brass model of a Canadian National Rail Northern Class 4-8-4 U-2-g tender locomotive No 6213, The model with twelve wheel coal burning Vanderbilt tender and was hand built by ‘Toby’ of Japan for Pacific Fast Mail of the USA. This fine scale model with fireman and engineer figures in the cab and finished in black livery with raised brass number plates to cab sides plus scale coal load plate to tender. Provenance: this watch was purchased by the vendor from a North Sea diver who had worked with a company named Gas & Equipment, owned by Ron Billington and Leon Metcalfe. Since purchasing around 1980, the vendor has had the watch serviced once and has not worn it for diving activities. Comex were a French diving company with whom Rolex worked to produce a limited number of diving watches in the 1970s and 1980s.
