Hairline striking crack at 1 o’clock and a little clipped, otherwise good very fine and rare £400-£500 --- The Hoxne Hoard contained 379 siliqua of Eugenius minted at Trier, as described by RIC 106d. These were further divided by Guest into six subtypes on account of the variations in reverse design common throughout Trier’s second Virtus Romanorvm series (Hoxne 624-32). Only eleven coins of Eugenius with a reverse adhering to variety Ac were included within the Hoxne hoard, indicating that this particular variant was produced on a limited scale. The Vale of Pewsey Hoard, sold through these rooms in 2022, contained four such specimens [lots 121-4].
